Default Does Anyone Make A Fiberglass 01/02 Silverado HD Hood

Getting ready to paint and make some upgrades to my truck this winter and am trying to lighten it up for the strip. Does anyone make a pin-on or bolt-on 01/02 HD Hood? Or does anyone know of a shop that could make one?

carid.com sells a few (and they are a sponsor here), but they have scoops. I have not yet seen a stock 2002 HD style hood in fiberglass. They even have a carbon fiber option for $1200.

BUT.... you're talking several hundred bucks to save maybe 10 pounds on a 6,000lb + truck. There just seems like so many other better options to me. If you are going that far with it, and you can get one in the 03-06 style, you could always upgrade the entire front end to the newer style. There are fiberglass (dirt truck style) fiberglass wide bodys. (not sure what you have planned for the bed, or how far you are going with it.

Thanks for the input, but I yes I am looking for a stock HD style hood. I might call around and see if anyone can make one, but like you said that's a lot of money for what it is. So i'll probly just stay all steel. I'm obviously not super concerned with weight, as I still have full interior, A/C, cruise control, air bags and ABS lol

But I think it would be way more than 10lbs, the steel hood probably weighs about 50 and a good pin-on might be 10 or 15. Plus another 20lbs for the hinges, would make quite a bit of difference. Mine weighs 4200 with me in it and full of fuel. Don't really want to go to the cateye front end, they look good but everyone has one lol.

No I had not seen that one yet. It looks like it would be perfect except for the ram air scoops. I think I am going to call GTS fiberglass and see if they could make one. Not really looking to spend more than $500 though.

Id be willing to buy one with you at $500, if they need more than 1 buyer.

I'd jump on that as well.

Right on, I will try to call tomorrow or the next day when I'm off, and will let you all know how it goes. I'm more interested in a pin-on style but will ask about a bolt on as well. Idk about you guys, but I figure I'm going to have to install hood pins either way for piece of mind, so might as well take out the hinges and save some weight there as well

Update: Just called GTS fiberglass out of St. Louis, they said they have made that front end before and just a hood would be around $450 before shipping. And around $100 to ship to a business. Hood would weigh around 18-20lbs, and they only offer pin-on style, and that the cowl would need to be trimmed if you still had wipers/air inlet grille below the windshield. I also asked him if he knew of any other business that made that style and he said he did not know of any. They are made to order and are about 3 weeks out. I'm going to think about it, but this seems like the best option.

Does anyone know what the stock steel hood weighs? I was honestly a little surprised when he said the fiberglass hood weighs almost 20lbs, but it is a big *** hood haha!

I can borrow a scale and weigh one of my steel ones.

Got any info on the cowl trimming? Makes me nervous as I have a street only truck (SUV really)
