yeah....i was selling those trucks....pain in the *** keeping track of it all...and trying to explain to joe schmoe the customer that they are the same damn thing...

I'm asking all these questions for a buddy that is looking for a truck for himself, and the other day my gov-lock, G80, or whatever you want to call it grenaded and now he's kinda scared that if he gets a truck with one he'll have the same problem.
So my question is, does the G80 in the larger rear ends have this same problem, and is there a good replacement out there (for instance I used a Tru-Trac in mine).
Also while I'm on the subject what year did GM start using the Gov-Lock style G80, cuz his wife has a 99 old body style Tahoe with the G80 code.

It's an option i think. If he's interested in buying something just look in the glove box for RPR code G80. If it's not there then it don't have one.
Trutrac is the best replacement IMO.
I think as long as your not really hard on your drivetrain, the g80 holds up for the most part. But when your too ruff is when it explodes.

The G80 is mechanical and G86 has clutches.
But **** I could be wrong.
