Default Difference in 99-02 silverados

Is there any difference between a 99 silverado and a 2000-02? I read somewhere that the 2000-02 motors had slightly more power and were less likely to have problems than the 99? As far as tuning goes are they all the exact same or will I be able to get more out of a 2002 than a 99? Thanks

this is from memory ill have to look it up when i get time. but the injectors are smaller(in 99) the 6.0 had a different crank length then the 00+. and they changed the cam i think in 2000 also??? the 99 did come with a few less ponys but thats due to the injectors, cam ect. there are plenty of fast 99 out there you should have no troubles getting the power you want out of it.

The 99's had cast iron heads, the 00's might have too, can't remember. 01 and 02 got aluminum heads. There were some differences in the tunes as well but you can load a 99 PCM with an 02 tune I believe. Sorry to be vague, I've been out of the game for awhile and can't remember 100%.

99-00 use a a different PCM then the 01-02. The 99-00 use the 0498 PCM while the 01-02 PCM is the more desirable 411 PCM that people like to use in swaps and forced induction applications. The PCM and harness can be interchanged but some of the programing changes.

Essential they are the same mechanicallyfrom 99-02. The injector size and the camshafts are so minor of a change your probally talking maybe 10hp.

Seconadary Air Injection seems to be standard in 99-00 while in 01-02 it seems to have been an option. I believe an EGR was also standard on 99-00 and not so much in 01 and possibly not at all in 02.

It wasn't untill 03 that Gm started adding a coating to the side of piston skirts in effort to reduce the the piston slap.

General rule of thumb is never buy the first year of production of any car. Thats usually when they have the most problems.

There is other minor changes that you would really have to look to see. Like on 99-00 2wd coil spring frames there is no reinforcment that bolts to the frame under the firwall and ties to the front crossmember. This was add in 01 and I would assume it was to increase frame rigidity....

I dont know how the 6.0L was brought in to this, but since its up...

99-00 had Iron heads and the rear of crank had the longer snout which can only be used behind a 4L80E.

In 01 they went to the aluminum 317 casting heads. They also started using a standard crank with a spacer to get the proper depth for the 4L80E. The spacer can be removed and the flex plate changed so it can be used behind a 4L60E transmission.

also, you can't disable the automatic headlights in a 99.
i believe the 99-00 coil packs were different as well as the engine cover
