Crew cab bed

Does anyone know if a NBS crew cab bed ever came without the black plastic cover on the rails like the ext cab beds? If so any idea where to find one?

I wish, any that you see without them are custom jobs. My ext. cab has the same bed and I wish i had fabrication skills to cap it so it looks like the 6.5' beds
