10gs would get him started. Till something like the rearend or transmission breaks.

How fast does he want to go? It could be done for less than 10K if he's not trying to set a land speed record and does the labor himself. There is a lot of things people do that are a waste of $ IMO. A basic Intercooled KB T70 kit with 42lb injectors, and a 255 intank, ,converter, shift kit and tune should get a guy eaisly into the 12's until like said above the trans or rear end breaks. 12's should be ok for a little while on the stock trans. You could run the stock muffler with a cutout, or a single 3 or 3.5'' magnaflow hooked to a 4~5' piece of straight pipe off the dp. For a 10 sec truck he's gunna have to spend a bit more. It's the meth kit, head studs, 80E swap, and rear end stuff that kills you.

I'd say $10k to have a reliable turbo truck. My rule of thumb was always double the expected cost and triple the amount of time it would take to get it done.

With the cost of the new kits constantly dropping. You can get into a reliable kit for $4-5K easy. You will need a new transmission soon after you install though so figure at least 2K for that as well.

10K is way too high.

Turbo's are never turn-key.

You should also tell him to make an account on here because he's going to need a lot of help.

wondering samething i have been ******* off the 5.3 i have now in my truck because i know if i was to mod it i would want bigger faster and better, so now i have made my mind up. with the above. and i would cut cost in the long run by just building what i want instead of modding current motor then more money for bigger setup.

kbracing turbo kit..around 3300 with intercooler..i think that price is right, not sure tho...go ahead and put atleast 60lb injectors in it or you will be upgraded later like i did.you can find them around 300 used..1 walbro 255 will be fine unless he wanting to make over 550rwhp.100 bucks...circle d 3200..400 bucks i think.put a transgo hd2 kit and vette servo in trans and a 40k trans cooler.that should get him started
