Default Cold air intake

Has anybody ever installed one of these cheapies from ebay?
Do they fit/work?
Do they have hookup for MAF?
Is it worth getting, would another kind be better????

I have one on my lq9. Fits fine. The maf coupler is a little too big but clamps down ok.

I do like the plastic pipe better, BUT, damn that is expensive for a little plastic tube and a filter!!!!!

I just bought the airaid tube, hacked open the stock airbox and got nice wix filter from napa.

The tube and filter combo isn't worth it, no panel filter is ever worth 70 dollars. But the $140-150 for a plastic tube is kinda pricey still, good thing I got mine for $125 two years ago lol.

You could still purchase the cheaper intake and figure out a way to wrap the tube or coat the tube to keep heat out.

I've ran both.

The Jr.is pretty and does work ok. Compared to the 4in intake, once I swapped I had to add about 10% more to my VE table.

In other words, the 4in setup was taking in more air.

I found an Airaid tube for $134 I may get ..... but that is $100 more than a complete kit with metal tube!
Where do I find this VE table?
I have HP Tuners, but the only thing I have done so far is correct my speedometer for 4.56 gears and added electric fans.
I would be afraid to mess with the tune without guidance.
I have an LQ9 6.0 that was tuned by a guy on the HP forum.

The inlet at the MAF is still the same size, so it shouldn't change much at all and the fact that the throttle body is still the same size. You'd have to watch the scanner to see if anything needs tweaking.

The VE table is under the airflow tab. It will say primary VE table. Yeah you wouldn't want to just start changing stuff if you don't know how it works yet.

I found that .... there is a secondary VE table too.
Well, I am a broke tightwad so I ordered the cheap full 4" kit!

Long tube 1 7/8" headers are next .... what do I change for headers?

Early GEN 3 computer from like 99-00 and maybe even early 2001 ( I forget) use both a primary VE table and secondary VE table.

If someone was to try and tune the vehicle in speed density for VE tuning, all tuning changes must be done to the secondary VE table as that is all that is used in speed density. The Primary VE is used when the vehicle is using the regular dynamic ariflow model with both the VE and MAF.

One would log the data, make the corrections to the secondary VE table, copy over each row in the secondary table to the primary table that match. Like 30/40/60/70/80/90kpa etc etc, then you have to highlight the primary table and interpolate the data to create the VE in the primary table. It's can extra step in the older operating systems.

The headers and intake you still will want to have some tuning done. Headers will need rear o2 disabled, COT (cat overtemp) disabled, cat codes disabled.

A wideband is a must here to truly dial in the fueling on the engine. You can lean out the fuel mixture to the low 12's like 12.2-12.4 for good power, optimize the spark timing to gain power, re-calibrate the MAF and VE to keep the airflow model in check and keep fuel trims under control.
