Exclamation clutch prob!

Hey all, I'm new to the forum but I already can see there's ALOT of info, which rocks! I was hoping that there is someone here who knows how to fix my problem ONCE and for all. I have a 00 GMC 4.3 with a 5-spd. The clutch pedal assembly is what holds the clutch master cyl to the firewall. That assy is made of plastic and is wort about a small pile of monkey dung , I was left stranded after it broke last week. This will be the THIRD assembly put on this truck in 10 years and I'm sick of it. I called GM to complain and all I got was a headache, which I honestly expected to begin with. So if there's anyone out there with a permanent solution I would appreciate your help. I have tried everything short of having a mahine shop weld something up. Which is what I want to have done, but have no idea of how to go about it. I'm about ready to shoot the thing.

I cut the plastic mount off the pedal assembly. I made a new mount out of a piece of 3" exhaust pipe and a piece of 10 ga steel welded to the fire wall. (Rivets aren't strong enough). You'll also need to weld a 12 inch piece of one inch angle iron to your fire wall to keep it from flexing. You'll need a dremal cutting tool or a plasma cuter to get the right shape for the master cylinder to mount to. You also need to remove the dash because of the heat welding will create. It was a pita but I haven't had any problems since

So how did u account for the approx. inch and a half that the plastic oe part sticks out from the firewall? With the 3 inch exhaust pipe? Or did u modify the length of the clutch rod? I have a neighbor who is a welder, I'm hoping that he will have a plasma cutter, I have the dremel drill. Thanks again!

The best way I can think to explain it is I made a two inch tall top hat. I cut the master cylinder mounting hole out of the top of the hat and used the brim to weld it to the fire wall. I'll look for some pictures of it when I get a chance

Thumbs up

Gotcha! Clear as crystal. That's what I was thinking. I figure that it'll be easier to do what u did than to modify the length of the clutch rod.

Hey, I had a thought. Could u possibly make me an identical "tophat" for my truck and ship it to me? I could pay you what you need to make that happen...... Name an amount....... I have been trying to find a machine shop but unfortunately from past experience they're pretty incompetent around here. Let me know.
