Check this out, another great thing by other than GM.

I'd be very interested in a half ton diesel. Especially if the new platform holds together better than the '06 and older trucks. It wouldn't be interested in an expensive 300K mile engine in a truck that needed to have serious money spent on it at half those miles.
To those that think mileage won't be much better with the diesel, you need to rethink. If you're squeezing 20+ out of a half ton gas burner, you'll easily get 25+ out of an oil burner under similar conditions. I can get 20+ out of my 2500 DMax 6speed 4x4 if I don't tow anything and keep speeds under 65. The same driving habits in a gas powered 2500 4x4 would yield 13mpg tops. Yes, diesel is more expensive now, but I can remember, not too long ago, that it was the other way around.
If the half ton diesel is done right, the hard #'s will show that it really doesn't cost that much to own. Go to kbb, nada, or edmunds and check the difference in used 3/4 and one ton trucks with gas vs diesel power. GM, dodge, furd, doesn't matter. Slightly used to 5+ years old, you get a bunch of the $ back when you get rid of the truck.
I had a diesel powered Chevy LUV back years ago. It didn't have enough power to get out of its own way, but it really sipped the fuel. It had a little Isuzu NA 4 banger if memory serves. A turbo on that truck would have made a neat package. I was in Mexico last summer and was amazed at all the diesel powered small trucks on the roads. Quite a few were not that old and made by the big three.
I think that the new platform would readily lend itself to a an I6 diesel. There's easily enough room between the front of the motor and the radiator to add a couple of cylinders. Count me in if they do it and they do right.

GM should make a 2-3L diesel Colorado. I bet that thing would get 50mpg. I drive about 500+ miles/week. I do need a truck for work but, most of the time I could get by with a small Colorado sized truck for just hauling some tools and what not. If I needed to pick up material or something big I'd probably keep a 2500 around too. It would be nice to fill up once every 1.5 weeks instead of every 2.5 days like with my current truck.

Colorado would be sweet. Oh and the post about 6.0L VMAX getting 21 mpg, I don't know how. My 5.3L truck isn't getting anywhere close. I'm into the 17mpg range currently. FWIW my 02 F250 CCSB 7.3L diesel with 4" exhaust and a 80hp econo chip always got 19 mpg + on the highway. The price of fuel is rediculous, but there are also alternatives like bio-diesel.

I'm with you on the torque and all but..This is PERFORMANCE TRUCKS.NET I don't care if it gets 2 mpg I like fast and loud, JMO. If I want smoke to bellow outta my truck like a freight train then it better look, sound and smell something like this:

So you dont like the bone rattling loud Dmax's that run low 11's and have NO SMOKE coming out the pipe.???? Any QC 4x4 truck that will run 11's is a performance truck. And unlike a gas burning 408 with a huge turbo that gets 11mpg these diesels get 20+mpg. Thats just plain bad ***. You should see the huge selection of high performance diesel sports cars over in Europe. The US has some serious catching up to do.

Don't get me wrong I love a fast badass truck as much as the next guy on here but, when you start paying more for gas in a month than some auto loans you start looking for something that might get some better gas mileage.
I think a small diesel pickup would make a great second vehicle.
I've heard the same thing about those Sprinter vans Mike.

Guess it's just a Jedi mind trick or something
More importantly though, what's ll the talk about mpg when your sig reads:
2007 QC Silverado Classic 1500HD LT2, 6.0L, 4L80E, 4.10's. Stock. free gas.

yes, but it still kicks A$$!! I'd be in the market for a 1/2 ton diesel, I think it would be a great thing for GM to do. I would never get rid of my gas engine trucks, but a diesel 1/2 ton would be an awesome DD.
