My hotsy I own peels that trash off the frames with relative ease. I leave the temperature lower on it as setting it to nuclear steamer levels is not normally required lol.

Enough science talk, did we ever figure out what chemicals would work best? I would like to do this to my red truck next time I tear it down, but don't see a pressure washer being feasible in a garage.

None. People have used Chemical Stripper, Acetone, Napitha, Paint Thinner, Diesel Fuel, Transmission fluid, Oven cleaner, and some other's I don't recall. Nothing seems to remove it very well.

Hot water pressure washer is the best solution.

Other than that it's razor blades, acetone or gas soaked rags and a **** ton of patience, right?

I feel like a wire wheel or flap disk would just smear the stuff around

I have not done the chemical way my self, But basically yes. I don't think the chemicals do much to dilute it. It may soften it some, but you end up using a scraper to remove it.
