Can't put fuel in fuel tank.
#1
I have an 04 5.3 V8 Silverado. I can barely put fuel in the tank. When I try to put fuel in at the regular rate from the pump it gushes out or the pump clicks off. I can put fuel in but only at the slowest rate allowable by the pump.
The fuel system has a charcoal canister. I've checked, checked, and re-checked the vents, filler neck hose and one way valve in the filler neck and the lines running to the charcoal canister. So theres no clogs or kinks and the tank is EMPTY. No DTC's. Help please!

Wow, I've had this same problem for 1-2 mo. It showed on my HPT, when I checked a week ago. I cleared the DTC, & the next time I put gas in, it improved, but not 100%.
If it stays like it is, it's not too bad now that I cleared code PO442. I could accept it, if needbe. But if it gets as bad as it was, I'll need to fix it.
I'm really curious, since no DTC showed too. Post up when u find out what it was in your case.

Tom, where did you see the vent solenoid for $22? I haven't been able to find it for any less than $111 (I think that's the kit with the new filter btw)

Gentlemen it's definately the Evap Vent Valve Solenoid. The GM part # is 19207763. You also need about 6 to 8 feet of 5/8 vaccum hose and about 4 water clamps. You'll need to relocate the (now seperate) vent housing to a remote area not endangered by water or road debris. I mount all of mine up around the top of the transmission.

First, thanks for all the help!
I checked out the Evap Vent Valve solenoid. It seems as though it's not working. I pulled it off and put some power to it and couldn't get it to do anything. No noise or clicking and I didn't see any movement either inside the actuator. However I blew through the vent and it was open. Next is the weird part. I unhooked one of the main vent lines to charcoal canister and I left the vent solenoid off also. I started and ran the truck. No trouble codes and the truck runs and drives fine but I can now put fuel in the tank!
I failed to mention earlier in the post that I have relocated the charcoal canister and Evap Solenoid because it go in the way of the driveshaft when I drop the truck to the ground. So I moved it over and replaced the 2 of the 3 lines that come to the canister with heater hose. I had the vent solenoid connected about 3 inches away from the canister with a short hose.
I also checked out the charcoal canister. I blew some air through it and it was very hard for air to pass through. I'm not sure but I think this whole problem could relate to a very stupid mistake I made about a year and a half ago when I was putting the fuel tank back in the truck I somehow hooked the lines up backwards. Which in turn filled the canister with fuel. Whether or not it's ruined I don't know?
Also does anyone have a diagram of the routing of those lines? I replaced the lines one at a time when I relocated the canister, but I just want to double check to be 100% on which lines hook where on the charcoal canister.
