Default A/C compressor messed up?

While driving down the road the compressor kicks on and off.I think that's normal but when it kicks on it squeals like the belt is slipping. Just the other night I was cruising and the a/c belt just comes off for no reason!!! Anyone know about this???

My A/C is messed up too. I can ONLY turn it on with EFILive Bi-controls, and when I do there is a loud squeal grinding noise. My belt is just fine though?! Let me know what you find out.

Sounds like it was either not tight enough or misaligned.

Had a GM Service Center in Harvey, LA replace my compressor twice, and they found out Detroit had a 2nd revision. Hadn't had problems since. Hadn't even hit 36K miles. Would make loud grinding noises, and increased when accelerating.

Just thought I'd throw that in there...

A couple different things can cause that...the cycling on and off is normal, unless it is constant on and off due to low refrigerant. As far as throwing the belt, that could be from:

1) Incorrect size belt
2) Belt contaminated with some sort of fluid that leaked on it
3) Belt or compressor misaligned
4) Compressor siezing
5) AC idler pulley siezing

Hopefully it's a cheap and easy fix

Hopefully, it's bud's #5 suggestion. That's the least painful option. Post up... Inquiring minds would like to know.
