Default A/C Compressor going out???

I had noticed my truck's AC wasn't cooling quite as good as it had in years past. I thought maybe it was just me and it was cooling fine. There wasnt that big of a difference....

Today while I was leaving work to go get some lunch, turned the AC on and immediatly heard a horrible screeching sound, that faded back to nothing once the compressor kicked off. Once the truck is warmed up, and the AC has been on for a while the squeaking goes away. I am guessing there is something wrong with the shaft/rotating assembly that is causing the belt to slip/screech? Anyone else had anything remotely like this happen? Hate to know what its going to cost to get this fixed...

It could just be a bad belt, but I don't know too much about A/C compressors. If something was wrong with the Compressor itself it could be the AC clutch. You also might want to recharge your system.
Just trying to help

Thanks man. It still has been cold all day today. Think I should try swapping the belt? I'll give that a try.....68k miles on the truck think its time to recharge?

Belt or the idler/tensioner would be my guess.
