Default better gas and performance???

Hello All,

I am new to this site but i been on ls1tech for a minute and decided to come over here being that i traded my trans-am for a truck. I have a 2000 GMC Sierra. 4door long bed with the 5.3 in it. I am in the market to get an aftermarket chip/programmer for better fueld economy and increased performance im not so worried bout the performance but i am really worried bout the fuel economy. Does anyone know what the best is out there? The truck is stock except for a sound system and im looking to spend no more than 400 bucks????

welcome to the site. there are a handful of companies that offer custom tuning, which is hands down better then a handheld. try a search on custom tunes.

so a hand-held is crap opposed to a custom tune is what im getting from the responses and thanks so much for the responses, i am going to do a search for custom tunes in the central texas area. i would even travel if i had to hahaha to get better gas mileage. Are there any gmc sierra owners with the same motor(5.3) that got info on the best place and can tell me what kind of fuel economy they getting with custom tune???...........

Charlie Wheatley is pretty close to you.

search him put.. he is a very good tuner! stock motor with a tune will usually jump 2+mpg when driven conservative... and gain 15+ hp
