Autometer gauge wireing..

And you did hook up three wires to the back of the gauge right? There's a sender wire, a ground, and ignition. The sender itself should ground to the trans case with no problems.
You can test the sender too...pull it out of the tranny and make yourself a ground wire by touching a grounded wire to the threads on the sender. Take a bowl of water and heat it up in the microwave and put the tip of the sender in it. If that doesn't work then something is wrong with the gauge, sender, or wiring. If it does, then you're fine and the tranny just isn't heating up enough to register on the gauge.

I have a remote junction block that I installed under the dashboard. That's where I get switched ignition power for all my interior accessories.
Before I installed that I had it tapped into one of the ignition hot wires in the side panel fuse box. I don't remember which wire....just dug around in there with a multimeter until I found one that was ignition hot.

Like DozerDan said, my barely will make it to 125 in the winter. If you do some stop and go driving, through town, lots of stop lights, for about an hour, you should see it get to around 150.
Btw, when installed the sender grounds itself. Just make sure you have a 12+ volt swtiched ignition wire.
