Is anyone mad about American Hot Rod show?

:wrongforu :wrongforu

Well every Friday I get off work around 9:00 or so and I come home eat supper and watch some TV. I have been a fan of Amercian Hot Rod because there is not much on TV and I enjoy anything car affiliated. One of the main reasons I watched the show was because of the painter Charlie, he seems like a good guy that works his ass of for Boyd, he seems like he was one of the best workers. I dont like how Boyd presures the guys into building cars in 7 weeks thats just BS. And the worker want to build them right but all the customers want them right now. Charlie wanted to paint a car for Chip Foose (He use to work for Boyd Coddington) well Boyd and Foose had a fall out years ago and when Charlie told Coddington about it he was mad. I understand the personal feeling against the two but it was only going to be one car, (BTW was for a car show, showing off the abilities of painter around the United States). Well after being preasured in building cars (BTW hes motto is building them right and taking your time) after some of these guys including Charlie were working overnight to get these cars done, decided to take the job for Chip Foose. Now he is out of a job at the Coddington shop. It just kind of pissed me off that he would treat his worker like that, and try to come off like the good guy. I know i wont be watching that show anymore.

SallyDaGMC 01-26-2005 12:19 PM

Yeah i saw that episode too. I was upset that Coddington would do that, way too much pride. His loss!

rhayes5000 01-26-2005 12:20 PM

I agree. After seeing that I was dissapointed in how Boyd handled the situation. I would rather work for Chip Foose any day!

1TRUESS 01-26-2005 12:33 PM

Boyd is an ass! There is no way I could ever work for him. After seeing his show I would never buy a car from him either! Just my two cents!

onequick5.3 01-26-2005 12:39 PM

Agree with all of you.

Way too much pride says it all. I dont know why he is like that when Chip Foose name is brought up? Of course he left him and became competition (BTW that was Boyds words in the show "Why would you want to go work for the competition") But if Chips got the talent why have someone hold him back, I would have left him to and built my own cars.

black_yukon 01-26-2005 01:15 PM

I figured out several months ago that Charlie was going to leave Boyd's when I saw him on an episode of Overhaulin' painting a car for Foose.

And Boyd is an ass. It seems like he is so far detatched from building hotrods that he has forgotten what it takes and the ammount of time required to build one right.

LS1csherm 01-26-2005 01:31 PM

Charlie now works for Foose.
Boyd is an ass
I wouldnt work for him - cant believe how he treats his people
Dwayne is worse - that little Hitler needs his ass kicked - never see that ass welding or painting something - I have never seen him fab one part

TurboBerserker 01-26-2005 02:46 PM

If you push guys to the limit, and then past it, and then past that, and then past that, and then ask them what the hell is the matter with them, expect them to quit... If you are too stupid to understand that you are burning and churning all of your talent right out the door to make yourself look better by "making impossible deadlines" you deserve the kind of help you're going to have in a few years when word has gotten around about your habits.

Plus, when you get to the level of expertise that Charlie obviously has, you want to work on stuff that shows off your expertise, not stuff that shows off how fast your work or how silly you are to pull 1000 hours a week for someone who doesn't appreciate it. Charlie made PLENTY of comments on camera about how he felt. Charlie gave Boyd a million and a half signals, and flat out said severals times that the deadlines were crazy and stupid (right to Boyd's face). If boyd didn't see it, well, sometimes you see what you want to see...

I say more power to Charlie. Foose seems to appreciate awesome talent.

My wife and I were talking about it after the episode and I told her I would never buy a coddington hotrod. She asked me why and I said "Because I don't want a car that was built by guys in the middle of the night." After seeing the way Boyd operates, I could never trust that my car wasn't assembled at 4 a.m. the day before the deadline...

goshawk23 01-26-2005 03:59 PM

i agree. i am glad Foose left his ass and now has Charlie. It won't be long imo that we see a mass exodus from Boyds shop. Da-Wayne is an ass.

Alwhite00 01-26-2005 05:39 PM

Yea, He pretty much said don't let the door hit you in the ass, Wouldn't even shake his hand. What an ass
I also like how he asks everyone if they are available to work all weekend and then when someone (mike) says no he pulls them in the office and ask them WTF and then when they decide to work instead of being fired Boyd says, That's great and says what a "team player" they are. Like they had a choice.

Kano 01-26-2005 06:06 PM

Im with you guys
I would never buy a coddington car
i couldnt anyways but my point is

Boyd should have put out a better image of his company
through this show and left out all the drama BS
I wanted to see the car not playing arguing
and fights with the fat wife
watch an episode with a stopwatch and time how much
time they actually show on the car

Boyd really shot his self in the foot with this one
and showed his lack of professionalism and business ethics
sorry but
I wouldnt even buy his wheels after what ive seen

2002yroneformula 01-26-2005 06:09 PM

I hadn't seen that Charlie left yet. Can't say it's a surprise though. I use to really like watching the show, but have to say I haven't watched the last few episodes cause I was tired of just watching them fire people at the drop of a hat. And granted I know they omit some things that actually go on from the show, Boyd still hasn't impressed me over the last few projects. I'm glad Charlie got out of there and is working for Foose now though. Dwayne may have had it right in one of the last episodes though by saying that it felt like people were jumping ship and that the place was gonna go out of buisness. If things keep going like they have been I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what happens.

I think that might have some of the reason to do with why I decided to buy my wheels elsewhere. Granted the wheel shop is some what seperate from the hot rod shop it still kinda makes you think about QC.:judge:

It wouldn't be the first or second time that's happened to Boyd! Dipshit! :jest:

I know this is off the topic, but we ALL remember Blue Bear. I thought he was an asshole, and he deserved to be punished. But I thought Boyd as a boss, friend, employer and possible father figure could've handled it A LOT better. :eyes: Just represents what happens when you get a little power and you don't have the mental capacity to deal with it. :jest:

02sierraz71_5.3 01-26-2005 08:45 PM

Boyd has no idea how to manage people effectively or efficently thats why things got out of hand with blue bear and his number 1 body guy quit.
I wouldnt buy one of his cars just because I think they are ugly, hes lost touch with the roots of hot roding. I would rather have a foose car any day. He did barracuda(i think) for joe rogan on the show rides and it was sweet mean as hell nice lope, killer sound sys, wheels paint and all and it was pushing 700 ponies now thats a hotrod. Not some choped up old style/retro look, with a half ass chrome motor.

while Im thinking about it I was pissed when they took that model T in perfect shape (probably one of the few origionals left) and completely chopped it up I was so pissed I couldnt even watch the rest. Forget about Boyd Coddington
:poke: :aug2:

BlownChevy 01-26-2005 08:49 PM

I like his wheels ;)

He is a jack off.

slowprocess 01-26-2005 09:33 PM

I just want to know why he tries to make every day "tropical hawaian day" at the office. Does this guy own a shirt that doesn't have flowers and crap on it? I don't really watch it in too much detail, like most of the guys names, but I would have made it about 30 minutes there before I drug that bald headed/goatie guy out by his eyelids and beat him to almost certain death. I really hate that guy, and he's always acting hard.... :eyes:

Boyd, if you see this man, try to shop somewhere other than the little gift shop on the beach. We get it, you're trying to one of the Beach Boys. :)

BigTex 01-26-2005 09:43 PM

Boyd is an Ass. Next season should be at the Foose shop instead of boyds. I liked boyd's answer to "what are we going to do without charlie?" - he says "I don't know." I was thinking you dumb schmuck, he still wanted to work for you. You told him not to come back. Not you don't know what you are going to do. Serves him right.

I don't know how many cars they build or what they charge, but that place is huge. When you see them moving cars around the campus to get sanded or painted, its unbelieveable they would need so much room.

8ALTNG 01-26-2005 09:59 PM

The funny thing is that Foose started out working for Boyd. Back in the early-mid 90's Foose was the head of hot rods by Boyd. Then he got tired of the shit and left. Then he started his own shop and a few of Boyds guys left to go work for Foose. Boyd felt that Foose had backstabed him. So now that Charlie is going to work for Foose, Boyd feels that Foose is "stealing" his help again. Boyd is a dick and he himself does absolutly nothing to get anything done. Even Paul Sr. from OCC does more than Boyd. Foose->:nutkick:<-Boyd

onequick5.3 01-26-2005 10:03 PM

Bluebear should have been fired from day one in my opinon, he was useless. And when he startedd calling the new guy a sheep fucker and things got way out of hand. Boyd and Dewaynes response was, " Well we dont condone fighting and taking anything outside to be handled and theres a possibilty you could be fired if so is done." Then they told the new guy that got fired, that they couldnt say anything to Bluebear to make him stop. WTF? If it was my shop (and one of my workers was calling the other a sheep fucker) or your ass would be out the door. Then Boyd acts like he does so much at the shop. BS. Foose puts more effort in a hour than Boyd does in a day. I remember on a show that Foose was so tired of working he went out and fell asleep on the hoop of his vechile. I dont really know whats keeping him in business.

GREGGO 01-26-2005 11:39 PM

I wanna go work for Boyd.

So I can get close enough to Dewayne to beat the hell out of him. That guy has no respect for anyone.

black_yukon 01-27-2005 01:28 AM

I'm glad Dwayne got that speeding ticket in one of the early episodes. He was even a dick to the cop.

PappyDan 01-27-2005 01:57 AM

What the hell do you expect, working for Boyd is like being in the dog house all the time,
I'm sorry to say but bluebeard should have been fired along time ago, he does not have the attitude to go with the job, I don't really feel sorry for Charlie, with his talent I don't know of any high profile shop that wont give him a job after working for Boyd the way he did, to be able too work almost 24-7, take the ass chewing and still be able to smile.
now as for little Hitler, that boy needs a beating from a heater hose, get a ticket and take it out on every one, no sex and take it out on everyone, the man just needs a mud hole stomped in his ass and walked dry.
as for buying Boyds parts, I have never picked up anything of his.
the show needs to be called Hawaiian Boyd's Slave Driving Hot Rod.

sliver 01-27-2005 11:32 AM

Did you guys notice at the end of the episode when charlie and boyds new wife were in the office. She was absolutely heartbrokenl.I think charlie is banging boyds new wife................. :jest:

GregM 01-27-2005 11:42 AM

The only two episodes I like are when Blue Bear got fired, which was long overdue, and then Boyd getting beaten in the rat rod contest where they drove to Louisville, KY to the contest. I would have considered buying Boyd's wheels before I started watching his show....I wouldn't buy anything with his name on it now!

It's a soap opera for men! :)

The "reality" hot rod and bike shows are on their way down. The backlash has already begun. There's only so many times you can watch the tantrums these guys throw. The more I see how they all act the less I desire the product they push.

Overhaulin' is still good because they get to work and get it done and manage to still maintain a good level of professionalism. Overhaulin' is the blueprint for the successful car show. I just wonder how long you could put up with the stress of such short build times?

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

marc_w 01-27-2005 12:44 PM

Charlie lived with Boyd and the wife for a few years... From the way I heard it, they helped Charlie get on his feet in his position at Boyds.

I think Boyd was so insulted because he took Charlies-leaving-to-Foose as a huge stab in the back for all of the support Boyd and his wife gave him to get where he was today. Charlie, Boyd and the wife were all good close friends.

I definitely think that Boyd should have seen the signs. They were very obvious on the show. I don't know how things happen in 'real life' at the shop.

I think Boyd has every right to be pissed at Charlie... I don't think he would have been nearly as upset if he was going to any other person out there. That would piss me off as much as my girlfriend dumping me to go back out with an ex of hers. (she's obviously been thinking of someone else this time, she's obviously been talking to him while I've been investing in the relationship)

actually if you read foose's bio, he was the pres. of bodys whole operation at one point...foose got all the way to the top and than wanted to strike it on his own.

i think boyd could ahve handles blue bear a lot differently, yes blue bear was a loose cannon but he definatly knew his stuff and knew what he was doing. boyd dosent.... the enviroment of that shop is very laid back so blue bear was always f**king around with people. granted the work got done, but boyd and d-wayne should have done differently. i agree with blue bear 100% it was his frame and body welded it without blue bears permission...thats shady as hell! i would have quit. and all boyd said was i think we have to part ways....screw that! i would never work for boyd, foose all the way!

and the only reason boyd is on the map in the frist place is cause of foose and fooses design! the bodyser 1 and 2 were beauties and foose did all the design of those

Overhaulin' would be much cooler if they dropped those two goofy-assed hosts down a well, IMO. I can't stand either one of them. More car, less idiot time.

That chick is a hottie though. :hump:

If the chick just stood their and looked good, like maybe in a bikini or something, and didn't say anything, it would be perfect.

Check out the latest issue of FHM magazine. I would suck the farts out of her ass given the chance.

I am in love with Courtney Hansen.

She's not just something to look at - a motorhead too. Her paw is into the racing thing. She grew up around it.

I can't stand the "stunts" they pull. These people have just had there car jacked for the most part. Leave them alone and quit trying to kill them with a heart attack or a stress attack of some time. I keep waiting for someone to pop the dude with a left jab or two. :punch:

I wouldnt buy a Boyd product after seeing how he treats people.
Foose appears to really care about people and not be stuck on himself

Couldn't agree more. The only sympathetic emotion I've seen Boyd show was when Charlie's father passed away, and Boyd just seemed to be glad when Charlie got back but went right back to the way he'd been after a few days. Foose on the other hand started getting broke up over that Corvette they did on overhaulin' cause he got the opportunity to work with his father who came out of retirement just to help on the project. Look foward to meeting him in a couple of months.
