Default Airbag SDM replacement

Hey guys,

I've got an 03 ECSB with the airbag light on... been this way for a few months. I got the code pulled and it's B1000, ECU malfunction.

I finally got around to pulling the drivers seat out to look at the SDM module underneath; corroded beyond belief. It looks like a 20 year old battery.
I'm waiting an hour before I pull and clean the connectors, but is there a way to check is this thing is truly broken? Also, is there another way to get a good one in there without the dealer? I've read you need to take it to th dealer to get it programmed to you VIN anyways, but I'd rather get one out of a boneyard if possible instead of paying the 400 the dealer wants just for the module. HAs anyone bought one off of ebay, put in it, then had the dealer program it?

Also my battery will NOT hold a charge. If I let the car sit for more than a day, I have to jump it in order to start it. Could these be related? I've never had this issue before and the battery is only 2 years old, was wondering if the SDM is staying on for some reason or pinging freaking onstar or something.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks
Jim

Anybody used myairbags or airbagsystems? I've heard the 03 doesn't need programming (would love someone to confirm) and since my sdm is so corroded I'm pretty sure I need a new one... don't feel like paying $500 to the dealer if I can get away with $100.

thanks guys
Jim
