I was thinking about ditching my subs and getting some aftermarket door and back speakers to hook to my amp. (Reg cab) I have 6 speakers, but are the 2 door speakers somehow connected? In other words, will a 2 channel amp power all 4 door speakers, or will I need a 4 channel for the doors and a 2 channel for the rears? Also are Sony Xplod 4x6 and 5 1/4 (I think that's the right sizes) any good? Anything else I should know? Do you use RCA cables for highs (or just bass lows)? Thanks for your help.

 

i have 2 10" sony xplod subs under my back seat..

i was planning on also replacing the door speakers with sony's as well...

someone told me they were pretty good, not the best but pretty good.

 

It would be best to replace you front door speakers with a componet set with a 6 1/2" mid/woffer. Yes a 4 ch amp will work fine. The Xplod line is not the best but better than the factory paper cones. RCAs flow the entire frequency spectrum.

 

BlackSunshineZ71 thanks for the input. I am not happy with my 2 10 inch RF subs. I might get 1 12 inch Xplod sub (if I can fit a 12 back there.) So how are your Xplod 10's? You will do just fine with a 2 or a 4 channel amp. However, I would get a 4 channel because you have a seperate gain for each pair of channels. As a result, you have more control on the level of each pair of channels. I suggest getting some good compones(6.5") up front and aim the tweeters directly to the opposite person's ears. This will give you really good imaging. I am not sure if Sony Xplod makes component, but if are looking for some budget speakers that sound really good for the money, you might want to check out Infiniy(reference). I personaly think these speakers sound better the old Infiniy Kappas(the once with the green cone).

i cant wait to replace the factory speakers;
i want to get 2-way speakers (for the mids and highs) since the subs do their job

 

If you get a good set of componants up front, you do not need the rear speakers at all. I have Boston Pro Series componants up front, and that is more that enough mids/highs. I have the componants hooked up to a PPI 300 watt amp, and two 10" JL's behind my seat powered by a PPI 400 watt amp. With just this setup, I have yet to hear a better "overall" sounding system, unless it is a car/truck with tons of money into it or is built for full on competition.

How much room does that down fire box take up. I have one c1 PPI 10 with a 200 watt PPI sedona pushing it. I dont like the solo sub and want to add a second.

If you have a base modle with the single speaker it is a 6 3/4" or 6 1/2S (same thing different notation). In that case you will have to do some fabing for the tweeter or just have it stuck on the door as a surface mount.

 

the box sits under the back seat;
its just high enough for the seat to rest on top of it, so the people in the back will have vibrating butts when they are back there <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

the amp is in back of the rear seat, i'd rather have it under the front seat, but its not easy to steal it being back there, cause no one can see it. the only thing i dont like is the bass drowns out the vocals, so in order for it to sound good, i have to turn the volume up...
i need a new head unit to turn the bass down hopefully.
