I looked into this because I thought my compressor was out, turns it wiring had burned up.

Anyways, I could do everything at home except drain the system and evacuate it prior to refilling. A local shop would have charged around $80 to do that stuff.

Did u ever install the compressor? Did it fix the problem? I was looking at mine today and it seems like the belt more play on it than before. The belt is less than a yr old so I'm thinking the culprit is the tensioner. That would explain why it only makes noise when the compressor engages

****. i never thought about the belt being warn out. the ac started blowing hot yesterday, so today i swapped out compressors. when i first looked, i noticed that the ac belt was broke. i just went ahead and replaced the compressor. i never thought about the belt being bad. when it would kick on, it made a **** ton of noise for it to be just a old warn out belt. well either way, ive got cold ac now.
