99 Silverado - instrument cluster
#1
First call to a automotive junkyard, a good one here in Richmond, VA, according to their book the 99 instrument cluster is different from the 00,01,02.
Anyone know what the difference is?
Also what might be the difference between the 99 Silverado 1500 that I have and the 99-02 Denali cluster that JP Customs has?

Something's different electronically. If you try to swap a 00-02 directly in, the air bag light will come on I believe. I got my Denali cluster from JPCustoms, it comes already modified and is plug and play
They have a different part number for the 99's and the 00-02.
(Denali cluster has a trans temp guage, 120mph speedo, white needles, and illuminates blue at night)

I think it's worth it
Yea, I did a bunch of research back when I bought mine...too bad about the mileage thing, but you can get that done at a local electronics/speedo shop or possibly the dealer for anywhere between $35-$75. Here's what mine looks like installed:

Bud,
I just ordered the Denali cluster for my 99 from JP. They said they can get the mileage set at the factory for an additional $100.
They will fax me a form and I return it to them with the mileage.
I am tempted since I still have to search for speedometer shops.

That would save you some trouble...I paid $100 to somebody I found locally because I was too lazy to go bargain hunting. I've read that guys on this site have been able to get it done in the price range I mentioned in my other post. You should get the engine run hours input into the new cluster also if possible. With the key off, press and hold the trip odometer reset button and a number will appear in the odometer display...that number is the engine run time (not sure if it's minutes or hours...haven't looked at mine in a while and I can't remember exactly)
