97 suburban randomnly dying
my 97 burb randomnly dies, then takes forever to crank back up. i have good charge on battery, have gas, i don't know what the problem is. my service light is on cause i have a bad mass air flow sensor, but would that be the problem? or fuel pump?
fuel pump would be my guess.
:stupid: fuel pump!
x3....I had my fuel pump fail multiple times in my old 97 Suburban. Symptoms were exactly like you described.
Get an AC Delco pump. The no-name autozone pumps are crap.
thanks guys! is that a hard change? would i have to drop the fuel tank?
Yep, fuel tank will have to come out. Once it's out it should be pretty straightforward.
okay, so.. im not very expirienced at working on cars. so would i have to drain gas tank first? this may be a stupid question
Yes, draining the tank would be a very good idea. The empty tank is very light. A full tank is gonna way a LOT.
There is a special tool called a "Fuel Sender Lock Nut Wrench" to take off the locking ring on the top of the tank that you can probably rent from an auto parts store, but if you are in bind you can use a brass chisel (no sparks) or a hard piece of wood and tap the locking ring loose on top of the tank. Don't want to ignite the fuel vapors inside the tank.:D
