5.3 is out.

When you unbolted the converter did you slide it back in the trans about 1/2 an inch? You dont want the converter to hang when the 5.3 was coming out.Just make sure the converter is seated all the way in the trans when you go back together.Any snags during the removal?

Umm not really any snags had to pull rad support to have clearance. I'm gonna be putting in a tb convertor when it goes back in. Also I have the 6.0 with the longer crank ,but have the flywheel for the 4l80 on which the holes were opened up to fit the convertor. Only time will tell on it fitting.

Been there done that, you are going to have to prove it to yourself before you ruin the transmission and converter.Take a look at your 5.3 crank, then look at your early 6.0 crank, big difference. You need to mock up a measuring devise, get a depth reading of the converter bolt holes in relation to the bellhousing depth, and then of the back of the motor were the bell mates to it to the bolt holes of the flexplate.Bottom line is when you set the motor in there you have to make sure the converter turns free and when its bolted up tight then the converter has to slide a little over 1/4in into the back of the crank. Measure for yourself before you try stabbing the motor.

What I am asking is have you seen the difference in the two flywheels I have? Was the clearance problem between the bolts to the convertor or the tranny pump and convertor? The one I pulled off the 5.3 has a pretty good offset to where is "pokes" out toward the transmission whereas the one on the 6.0 is pretty well straight up and down so to say no offset. I'm almost positive that there is more than half the difference in the flywheel itself. I will check in the morning for sure as to see exact measurments. When you were working on yours which flywheel did you have on it?

I have both plates, think about it this way,no matter how the flexplate looks(forget about the flexplates for a sec.),the converter will be shoved back into the tranny about 1/2in further than the 5.3 crank. Can you see the difference in the two cranks? Then you should realize the converter pilot still goes into the crank but it is now moved that much futher, the difference between the two cranks,to tight dude.I clicked on your profile and looked at your old posts, this was well covered before.
