4.8 vs. lighting
#11
It will take more than a procharger kit on a stock 4.8 to beat a lightning. As LS1TRUCKGUY said you never see a stock lightning. I know from experiance that you will need to make 450rwhp to compete with the low-modded lightnings at the track and on the street. To actually be a player with the L's you need to make some serious power. The 4.8's dont make torque. The L's make lots of torque. Hree are some moda that you will need to "play" with the L's:
- Procharger (3core intercooler, 11+lbs boost)
- Cam
- Heads (6.0 or p&p'd Ls1 heads)
- built trans (60e or 65e)
- Convertor (3000+ stall)
- Gears (3:73 or 4:10)
- Locker or a good Posi
that should bet you started.
On another note I think that you would have a better chance with a small cam'd, turbo'd 4.8

Darknight ran his L a few weeks back with a CAI and a basic handheld tune ran a 13.4@102 spinning for about 25-30foot.
Just to give an idea of very lightly modded L's.There so easy to make so damn fast...

I've never seen a stock 1999 or 2000 in the 13's. They seem to be very low 14's. I ran one once a long time ago. Just the reputation Gen-II Lightnings have had me so psyhed-out at the line I missed the tree pretty bad!

The 2001-up Lightnings have 20 more HP and run high 13's stock. If it's still got the stock wheels you can tell which year is. The 99-00 have the more star-looking wheels.
