The frames are the same between a V8 and a V6. However there are 2 types of front suspension Coil Spring and Torsion bar. That part is not interchangeable. The Mounts on the frame are different between the V6 and the V8. They have 2 long bolts holding them to the frame. It's been covered several times in the V6 Swap thread. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...5/#post5337732

When you have the wrong mount this is what happens.

And these are the plates with the GM brackets from dirty Dingaling...

OP, Using the correct V8 GM Frame mount and The Correct V8 Engine Mounts will solve the issue. The plates clearly push the engine forward.

If not, then Go to a drive shaft shop and ask them if they have a longer Yoke you can purchase or see if they can make you an adjustable drive shaft...
Please let us know what you find.

How does the trans fit in the body if pushed so far forward? Got a pic of the shifter coming through the body?

@RedXray did this recently, he had no fit issues, used all GM parts to make it work

love the attitude tho, it's gonna get you far around here 🙄🙄

Thanks for the response guys. I really do appreciate it. The truck has been on jack stands for a couple weeks now. I’m getting my ecu back tomorrow and hope to start it by weeks end. I just installed the dbw pedal tonight and it’s all plugged in. It was definitely a pain. I’m hoping when the truck is on the ground it’ll pull in the shaft a bit. I also have a 3/5 kit I’ll be installing which I’m also hoping helps. Either way I’ll take a photo of the driveshaft when the truck is on the ground and when I have the lowering kit in. Hopefully it’ll help others.

The shifter was never taken out and it sits in the same position. I was going through the gears tonight after the pedal install and things felt good.

My apologies for the rant above guys.

It had to have changed shifter location unless you moved the rear axle back lol

the trans didn't move 2" forward and the shifter not go with it

ArthurSC2 you make a good point and observation. When I get home I’m going to take a real close look at the shifter area to confirm there’s no binding. Up until now it’s something I overlooked.

Was never my intention to pass on bad info.

Hi all. Just wanted to circle back on this to close out the thread. I installed a 2/4 drop with drop shocks and it resolved my driveshaft issue. I used front spindles and rear hangers/shackles. With the truck on the ground the driveshaft is out at most a 1/4 inch. No vibration issues either. I can’t say this is the correct way to fix what happened but I was lucky it all came together.
As for the engine shifting forward I noticed that the metal floor in front of my shifter was bent in due to the shift. It wasn’t much and didn’t match the original gap in the driveshaft. Maybe because there’s more play in that area? I slightly trimmed it with the dremel and I was good to go. The truck rips! Hopefully this will help others out. There seems to be many motor mount combos for this but if you use the dirty dingo plates with oem plates on top of it as the site says be mindful of where the engine will sit. Keep on wrenching all!

And in case anyone searches for this in the future, (and other than brown and stinky, I barely know ****), but IIRC its the tailshaft that is different on the nv3500 from v6 to v8. I'm betting that's the OP's problem.

as someone who's been on here a long time, i know 1FastBrick knows what he's talking about.
and as someone who's done this exact swap (4.3 with nv3500 to 5.3 with that same nv3500), i'll vouch that the info he provided is correct.

i used the factory v8 engine block mounts that came with the replacement engine, and i bought frame-side engine mount plates from a 4x4 v8 1500 (2wd trucks used different frame plates, as did HD frames [with corresponding 2wd & 4x4 versions]). everything bolted right up to my 4x4 v6 1500 frame & transmission in the same locations that factory v8 5speeds did, meaning the shift tower is still in the center of the floor hole. i'm also still using my factory driveshafts with no extra slip distance in the rear & not too tight on the front. if your suspension mods without matching shocks exacerbated the problem, that's a separate issue.

transmission is the exact same regardless of v6 or v8. only difference is 4x4 or 2wd tail housings. what adriver might be thinking of is the difference between mid-size truck nv3500s and full-size truck versions. the tail shafts are different between those two, as are the gear ratios.
