Wink 4.10 gears in an avalance/suburban/tahoe?

My 02 Sierra Denali's front differential has been whining for quite some time now and its getting noticeably worse. It only does it when turning left for some reason, but its putting a ton of fine metal shavings into the fluid and is leaking from the driver axle seal, the pinion seal, and pushing fluid from the breather on hot days (i'm assuming it's getting the fluid way too hot). It has lasted 311,000 miles but it's time to replace it.

The question I have is, were 4.10 gears available in Avalanches, regular half tons, Suburbans, Tahoe's and Yukon? There's a TON of cheap listings on ebay that claim to have RPO code GT5, but I guess i'm not 100% sure if I should trust those ads. For example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Carrier-Fro....c100284.m3505

I'm aware that I'll have to swap over my passenger axle shaft and housing to the normal 4x4 differential. Am I being too cautious, or are 4.10 gears really that common?

I know 4.10 came in the 2500 version of the suburban/yukon and avalanche. Never seen one with factory 4.10's in a half ton unless it was like a denali or the SS/VHO or vortec max trucks.

It always seemed to be either 3.42 or 3.73 depending on options and towing packages.

Have a good local transmission guy overhaul it, put in at least 4.30 or 4.56.
All these halftons are way over-geared from the factory, no stocker will rev out direct... and anything with an overdrive SHOULD be able to rev limit direct.

That's what I've seen as well, but even sites like car-part list tons of 4.10 differentials, mostly in 5.3 avalanches and suburbans, but some half tons. Some even include pics of the rpo sheets, so I'm not sure what to believe. Like you, I've only seen them in vmax, SS, VHO and Denali's.

There's nowhere around me that can rebuild a differential worth a crap other than the stealership. I'd love to re-gear to 4.30, but I don't want to stick any money into the quadrasteer rear end right now

I think I have seen the 4.10s in a few Z71 suburban/tahoes in the salvage yards. Don't quote me 100% on that though...

I found that avalanche 5.3's were only available with 4.10's or 3.73's. I guess it isn't uncommon for the z71's to have 4.10's. If anyone has heard or knows different I'd love to hear before I pull the trigger

My college roommate had a RCSB 4.8 Z71 and it was 4.10.

on an unrelated note I just bought an AWD 4.10 diff, and I will have the passenger tube/axle available if you need them. The seller was quoting ~120k on the parts. I can verify that the flange is true to the axle and the bearings are still smooth, no leaks.

Totally forgot about this thread, ended up buying an entire 2003 sierra denali with working quadrasteer, no motor/trans/tcase for $300. I'll be using it's front differential
