Having a race car and a work truck is a lot easier. Why not invest in trailer to tow the 8 sec Vette to the track or home if it breaks.

I think that i've read that the difference in the earlier LS1's and the newer are bassically little things like valves, and a certain hose might not go where it used to on the 97-98 vettes.

So I dont think it would be anything you couldnt change .

O yeah how bout you make me a deal on that 6.0 of yours. ;

I'd look into raceready f-body you can probably save a lot of money that way, they have terrible resale values especially heavily moded ones. There loss would be your gain.

it is for sale and ready to ship, make me an offer.

the pre moded f body isn't a bad idea, try and get something with a 12bolt and a roll bar all ready.

I would say F-body too. I think they are better for drag racing than a C5 and if you can get one with a cage and a good rear then there isnt much work to be done for you.

Im almost postive that the first LS1s werent iron sleeved. Thats the difference and its a pretty big one

Why not go with a 1500HD? Its really a 3/4 truck. you would get your 4L80E and 14bolt rear end and you would have your 6.0 to start with already. What is the weight diff between the 1500HD and 2500HD ECSB? Can't be that much.
But the vette is sweet for sure. I finally fuel infected mine and while tuning ran a new one from a light to 95+ and we were side by side the whole way. Its sweet going fast...

yeah a fast f or y body would be impressive and fast but its not the same effect you get in the truck you think youd be as popular as you are today with and 11 second Fbody? hehe you wwwknown would there be people lining up to talk to you at the track if you ran an 11.9 in a vette? would you be having as much fun beating people in a caged vette on the street? would anyone ever race u in a caged and tubbed f body? i say... turbo scsb

I just sold my C5 about 3 months ago and still have $7K to pay off on it! If you are gonna buy one, you can steal it off someone like me. I had an '01 droptop A4. This is a buyers market, not a sellers. Good luck getting more than $14-16K for your truck. I sold my 99 Z71 ext cab LT stepside with about 62K on it for $13K trade it.

Here is my old one ... At my old appartments. Now I have a house!
http://www.dfwstangs.net/hosting/Hit...ptop_small.jpg Copy the shortcut and paste into a new web browser. Says "Stolen Image" otherwise. lol

Why not just keep your truck as a daily driver (if it is paid for) and buy the C5 outright? Hell a heads/cam C5 would easily dip into the mid 11's (if not faster) with traction and stall. With a 100 shot easily a high 10 sec car.

I'd go with: LT's, X-pipe, Z06 catback, FIPK, GMS MAF, ported TB, Weiand intake, AbsoluteSpeed 5.3 heads decked (11.0:1 comp), 216/224 cam, Yella Terra Rockers, ASP Pulley, PI or Yank 2800-3600 stall, and some Nitto drag radials.

8 sec C5 will take a stroker+spray or FI + big shot of spray. Your pricing is pretty far off on some of those C5 parts...
The rear end is built by Getrag. Think BMW, TT Supra. That will not break.
You can't just go buy gears, an entire setup is around $1500 from what I remember.
Rear mounted trans = only 4L60E. I never heard of anyone stuffing a Th400 back there.
If you go FI, you'd need the low compression 6.0 heads.

Your best bet is an N/A car like with the boltons I stated above or to some varation.

i wasn't saing my truck is worth 20k, hell i paid 20k for it a couple of years ago, i will be happy if i get 15k for it. just saying i could spend 20k for a project car.

tbyrne sells a complete rear diferential with 342 gears for $899, i saw another guy advertize any gear you want for $800exchange.

here is a link to the turbo 400 set up, no price though. http://www.converter.cc/C-5conversion.htm

i am planing a forged everything stroker with moderate boost and a big shot, i would like to see 700hp or so without the nitrous and then another 200+with a wet shot, i am ready to build a monster. with my last project i learned alot about boost, tuning and driveline problems and feel i am ready to make a seriously fast something, i want to hold the dyno record in my area(at least for a street car) and i want to put the smack down on everything that pulls up next to me. an 8sec vette and a 10sec truck will probaly both run 10sec on the street and puting this truck back to stock reminded me how easy these things are to work on, those two things are pushing me toward a truck. beef up the stock tranny and then make the power, thats all there would be to a 2500hd.

Ah okay, I gotcha now. Private party sales are always going to be better than Dealer trade in any day.

That gear set is what comes with the M6 cars. I didn't mention it as a jump from 3.15:1 to a 3.42:1 isn't worth the cash in my opinion. Now if your A4 came with the 2.73:1 then hell ya, you'd notice a huge difference. Either way, I've seen plenty of fast C5's with stock gears as there are way more ways to go faster than a gear swap.

That Th-400 swap is totally new to me. I didn't think it could be done, I am wrong about that for sure. I don't see why a 4L60E wouldn't be fine fully prepped in a C5, as it is about 2000lbs lighter than your truck. The downside is no OD so you'd need to run 2.73:1's or 3.15:1's to keep the revs down. Besides that trans is what Lingenfelter has behind a 9.2sec TT C5.

You could probably make the reg cab long bed truck go about the same speed, but more durable. 10.5" rearend, 4L80E, etc. It has HUGE and insanely strong parts.

I'd just do a N/A 11 sec C5, much faster than that and there are hard-core traction problems, durability decresases, and becomes less fun to drive. Besides how many low 11 sec N/A cars are around that are daily driven?
