Has anyone here replaced an oil pan gasket on their 2wd 2004 truck? If so, how long did it take you? Mine's a 5-Speed so I hope it's less involved. I planned on doing this tonight in 2 hours. Am I being realistic?

Yeah, you should be able to do it in a couple hours. I dropped my pan, and it wasn't too bad. I had bought a new gasket for when I did my rod bolts, but it looked like I could have gotten away with the original one. I took my sweet old time, and did mine over the winter, but I don't think a couple hours is asking for too much.

Already bought a new GM gasket. It's too f'ing hot out now and I'm not going to torture myself. I think this project will get done early saturday morning. I don't think I have to drop the starter do I? I think I can unplug the low oil level sensor, take the plastic sheilds off the side, and then get to loosening all the bolts on the oil pan and bellhousing, right? Last but not least, does the crossmember have to come out underneath the pan to remove it?

You're oil pan gasket is leaking Joe? That's pretty rare for the GENIII's...or are you (did you) pull the pan for some other reason?
Don't forget some dabs of RTV where the corners of the front and rear covers meet the oil pan gasket btw...

Couple of hours because you will want to clean the pan while it's off. You have to unbolt the crossmember and the steering shaft and rack (just let it sag down for clearance) Sometimes they will leak near the oil filter of some slapnut in the past has put a jack on the oil pan for whatever reason.
