Default 160 thermo affecting mileage

how much mileage do you lose when you go from a stock stat to a 160? The guy that tuned my truck told me he tuned it for a 160 so i could get more timing. I haven't changed it yet because I didn't want my MPG to suffer too much but if I only lose about 1 MPG or somehow the MPG stays the same I am gonna change it. My truck feels very slugish when I roll on the throttle like somethings choking it up or holding it back (i'm guessing timing issues). I'm in no way a expert on tuning so any feedback is welcome.

I lost about 1 mpg. If he tuned for a 160 stat the timing should be a little higher which would give you better throttle response.

Alot of guys report losing 1-2mpg, but I didn't lose anything...I'm assuming that Bryan at PCMforLess must have done his homework when he tuned my PCM for the 160 stat and efans.

I think you will lose more MPG by not tuning for a 160*. The pcm is throwing more gas because it thinks that it is not up to running temp. My truck runs about 20* colder then stock (174* vs. 194*) So by not retuning it will run rich, losing more MPG.

My tune is for a 160 but I never installed the 160. I guess I'll go ahead and swap it out. If I don't like it, I'll just swap it back.

If your tune was done to run a 160 in closed loop your milage will not suffer. if you run a 160 when your tune thinks you have a 195 your fuel milage will suffer. just because it's giving more fuel trying to heat the engine that can't get any warmer (Open loop. Kinda). it may make a little more power, at the cost of allot more fuel.....

As long as the Closed Loop enable temp is set ~5-10* below operating temps you'll be good, no milage loss. BTW I think stock CL enable temp is 131* so it should'nt need tuned for just the stat, but you probably could run a bit more timing.
