The current 4.3 is antiquated and has low power output per size. It also gets the same fuel mileage as a 4.8 which cant be good for CAFE. There are also rumors of a turbo for the in-line motor.

What they need to do is make a 4 or 6 cyl. turbo diesel for the 1500's.

Rumors are that ford may have a 4 cyl. turbo diesel in the works for the F150.

i agree. if they can get 18mpg out of a 2500hd truck i would think 25+mph could be had in a 1500 with a smaller diesel motor. that VW jetta TDI gets 49mpg and is prety much a real car still.

Ford is doing a small turbo diesel in the F150 and they are going to sell the hell out of them. Should get ~25mpg city. GM is going to be a couple years behind. Isuzu already has the small 4cyl. turbo diesel motor for sale outside the US. The next few years in the US is going to be real interesting as turbo diesel cars and trucks start taking over. It's about time.

I think they should just put the 6.6L duramax in the 1500. Remember back when you could get the 6.5L in a 1500.
