I believe they got it right this time.
There hasn't been any problems with the new 05' SS Impala's DOD 5.3L engine as of yet. It boasts 303 hp and gets 28 mpg hwy. The 05' Trail Blazer has been using the 5.3L DOD engine as well with no issues.
At least GM has got the engines down pat!
When they get that 6 speed auto working up to par in conjunction with the new DOD engines, then GM will have the competition scrambling to catch up.

No it won't actually. They had that problem with that when they used it in the caddy in the 90's. Now the cylinders actually alternate to even out and keep all cylinders the same temp and with the same wear when in 4 cyl mode.

i hope they do do something sweet with the SS, i wouldnt mind having one of the new ones but i just cant imagine pouring all that money into a new vehicle plus all the mods i would want...i wouldnt mind keeping my 2k for a long time and just replace the engine and trans again and ahain

no, there isnt even any official info about the regular silverados. I think they debut september 7th or sometime around then. Thats when we'll know more, maybe they'll have the silverado SS then but I doubt it. I'd expect to see a new SSS at the NAIAS
