No it won't actually. They had that problem with that when they used it in the caddy in the 90's. Now the cylinders actually alternate to even out and keep all cylinders the same temp and with the same wear when in 4 cyl mode.
I believe they got it right this time.
There hasn't been any problems with the new 05' SS Impala's DOD 5.3L engine as of yet. It boasts 303 hp and gets 28 mpg hwy. The 05' Trail Blazer has been using the 5.3L DOD engine as well with no issues.
At least GM has got the engines down pat!
When they get that 6 speed auto working up to par in conjunction with the new DOD engines, then GM will have the competition scrambling to catch up.

I just dont like the DOD stuff. Sure the SS Impala gets 28mpg, my 00' Z28 M6 with TR224 and alot of bolt ons got 34mpg if I kept it at 75mph. Sure the 07 Burban gets 20mpg, with a couple bolt-ons and tune I get 24mpg in my XL 4x4. Also those "gas saving" Tahoes that get "21mpg" are running 3.42 gears. An 06' Tahoe with 3.42's got "20" mpg, so where is the huge gain from 4 cylinders? I think its alot of gimic to up sales. One of those things to take advantage of peoples fear IMO.

no, there isnt even any official info about the regular silverados. I think they debut september 7th or sometime around then. Thats when we'll know more, maybe they'll have the silverado SS then but I doubt it. I'd expect to see a new SSS at the NAIAS
