Default 05 6.0 into 02 gmc 1500

i am getting a 6.0 out of an 05 box van. i dont know much about it, but i would also like to know what all i need to put this in my truck.
the engine was running but has 200k miles on it, so im guessing it needs to be machined and overhauled. let me know what i need to do guys, thanks!

Depending on what your budget is it's a direct fit. I'd put it in program the pcm for a 6.0 and let it go.

At 200K if that motor has been well cared for it is perfect and wont need an overhaul. If you are planning on tearing it apart heads cam headers yada yada then throw bearings and a new set of pistons in it and let her rip. The cranks dont wear and I guarantee you if it has been treated well the hone marks are still in the cylinders.

Almost sure that 6.0 has a 56x reluctor wheel. I think '05 and up went to 56 teeth. Your '02 5.3 runs a 24x. You'll need a conversion box, or swap them out. Other than that, I think your harness will work.

You'll need the fly wheel also. You will have to use your '02 intake manifold. The '05 one is returnless.

Nope they did not change the crank reluctor until the NNBS trucks came out in mid 2007. ALL NBS 1998 thru 2007.5 backwards LS engines use the same crank reluctor.

What are your goals for the truck is the question you need to ask yourself. If you are essentially after 6.0 power with minimal money invested put it in exactly the way it sits and enjoy the power. Once you start making mods you have to figure out how far you want to go then figure out what supporting mods need to be done in order to make power reliably.

Well, now I'm 100% sure I was wrong about the reluctor wheel. Its a 58 tooth anyway. Don't know where I got that **** from.

I will say the swap is pretty easy. Also swap out the oil pressure sending unit before you drop the engine in.

You're getting good advice about planning your mods.

Stepping back from the thread now. Sorry...

Do yourself a favor and change the oil pump pickup Oring. Like said 200K isn't a problem if it's been well cared for. I'd prob put in a little cam, and new valve springs. A new or low mile set of factory springs at the least. At 200K the valve springs start to get tired.

I'm thinking bearings, pistons, 224ish cam, a little headwork, new springs, oil pump and timing chain
