Default 03 Sierra interior headliner fan/Sensor?

For quite some time now I have been hearing a strange buzzing noise from my 03 Sierra (with the Bose 6 disc, Onstar and auto climate control). Today my brilliant fiance figured out the sound was coming from my headliner so I popped the cap on what I thought was a microphone or speaker for the onstar system. instead what I found was a small sensor (a thermometer?) mounted in front of a litle fan. I am planning to use some compressed air to clean out the mini fan and possibly some which will hopefully stop the buzzing coming from the fan.

Now the big question. Does anyone know what this thing is and if I can just disconect it? I asume its for the auto climate control (I never use the auto setting) but am not sure. If anyone knows please let me know.

yeah, its to sense the interior temp of the vehicle for the auto temp adjustment. 09152245 is the part number for it. Lists for about $22. common item.

Cool thanks for the info. Nice to know it's a cheap part, especially if my attempts to clean it work.
