WTB: Spider gears for a 99 silverado
#11
You will take rear wheels, calipers, and rotors off, then take the cover from the differential. Once you have drained all the gear oil you will need to put the truck in neutral so you can rotate the differential to access the bolt that holds the pin in place.
When you get the bolt out of the pin simply slide the pin out of the carrier. Then push both axles in so you can get the c-clips out that hold the axles in. Then slide both axles out carefully so you dont damage the outer axle seals just enough to clear the spider gears. Then rotate the spider gears to take the smaller gear out through the carrier opening and rotate the gears around to take the other small gear out. Once you have both small gears out with the thrust washers you can take the two bigger gears out and replace everything in reverse order. Dont forget to clean the surface of the housing and cover thoroughly to make sure you get good seal before you refill with gear oil. If Im not mistaking it takes about 2.1 quarts of gear oil to refill the differential. I hope this helps you out.
