I wouldnt be majorly concerned about heat soak, the air move through your itake so fast there is not enough time for it to warm up that much.
a few places sell some wraps that are like what surrounds heating/ac ducts

I would stick with the dry filter too, your Maf will thank you.

I have used oiled filters on my cars, you just have to be careful and not over oil them.
I also clean my Maf off with electrical contact cleaner on occasion just in case

do a search for "modifying stock airbox" many people prefer it over the aftermarket.
I believe s&b, and volant also have sealed boxes that will do the same.

the airraid i have has a rubber gasket that is supposed to seal against the hood, so it only draws air from the fender, and behind the headlights. I know it doesnt seal it up perfectly, but well enough

Mine will be here about 2:00pm today, I am planning a trip to lowe's to get some rubber weatherstripping for the top of the shield but for for the $89.90 I paid shipped it's worth it. I'll post pics with the weatherstripping on it tomorrow.

I also have a K&n cone design I cleaned up that I will try to see if it's better wet or dry. I like things wet usually but as far as the filter dry could be better....
