i think its pretty well known that the clear and smoked ones crack..if u want a good solid intake the black one is the way to go....my blower would blow off the tube from time to time and the clutch fan would give it hell but it never cracked....

I tend to agree with what LM7 said. Although I have never had a problem with my smoke one, it seems others have. Keep in mind that the clear and smoke ones are for showing off your stuff. They are made of a little bit different material than the black ones so they can be see-thru. As with any show piece, you should take extra care of it. You don't scrub your custom wheels with the same brush you use on the tires do you? Now I have a (painted) black tube with a smoke lid because of the N20. Get a black one if you plan on using a nitrous wet kit and install the nozle anywhere on the tube.

So it seems that the black ones are a lot stronger than the the clear/smoked ones. Do you have to change anything in the lower box during the installation of this intake? Meaning opening up the air inlet holes or do the stock sizes flow enough air? Thanks

Damn, that is a good price. I, like Deckhand, paid almost $300 for my smoked UPD but mine hasn't cracked.

No mods needed. Some guys including myself cut a 3" hole in the bottom of the box and snake some 3" tube down to one of the airdam openings to just get more air in. But it's not needed. Basically a home made ram air.
