Default ZO6 cams - worth it?

Would it be worth it to upgrade my stock 5.3 cam to a 01 ZO6 cam and springs? How much of a gain would I see? What would a good price be on a used cam and springs? If I do get the cam, I would hold on to it till I get ported/polised 5.3 heads, headers, e-fans and do everything at once. Since I would be doing that, would it be smarter to just buy a new bigger cam? It will be at least 6-8 months before I could have everything, so will I be happy w/ just the ZO6 cam in the mean time?

Do a search, lots of info. It made 36rwhp, all top end, with no tuning in my buddy's 5.3. The good part of this cam is that it needs no tuning, makes decent gains, idles like stock, and is cheap. The bad parts are that you lose low end, all the power increases are above 4,250ish, and it does not make as much power as aftermarket cams. You can buy this cam and springs for under $350 and can get it cheaper looking around.
You will need a converter with this cam or with any good cam. A converter is a must in my opinion, even with a stock truck. A Yank 3000 is what everyone has and is perfect for a daily driver.
Good Luck

A Zo6 Cam is a cheap way to get hp. Stupid is right when he says it only makes power up stairs. You can get around this by advancing the cam +4* with an adjustable timing chain. It will bring the power band down to a good level. Also the stall is highly reccomended in anyones case. It would be a good combo with the above and a Yank TT3000. Those are my intentions anyway along with other goodies . You can pick up a 01 Zo6 cam and springs for atleast half of what stupid said. If you look in the parts for sale section you can find them for 150 and above. I bought mine for 135.00 with springs. Do some searching on the Zo6 cam or cam specs. Very informative stuff there.
