Default ZO6 Cam in a 5.3?

I'm planning to put a TSP magic stick in my LS6/ZO6 crate engine this spring.

I was also planning to donate the ZO6 cam, springs and pushrods (5,000 miles on them maybe) to my father's 2001 Chevy P/U which has a 5.3 in it with minor mods like catback exhaust, etc...

Anyone know of any issues as to why I can't do this, shouldn't do this, any specific problems, etc...?

You should be alright with it with a mild stall.

I wouldnt do it without a stall. Ive heard that they loose lowend and dont make up for it until much further in the RPM's. His shift points should also be raised to take advantage of the cams powerband.

yeah a mild stall ought to take care of it, it is a great cam losing i think like 5 tq but gaining like 35 rwhp and it will usually kick in about 3500 rpm with some head work it will raise his powerband even more i have more than a little experience with it i have been in and driven more than one truck with this cam in it again great mild cam but they are correct in the fact that it will take a little to kick in ..... in fact my friends heads are hogged out so much that you kinda feel pull about 3500 not much but at 4500 hold on!! so depends on the setup but overall good deal especially for free hope this helps

Default Z06 Cam in "00 5.3

I have a Z06 cam in my 5.3. I love the power in the upper rpm ranges (anything above 2500rpm). Below 2500rpm the truck doesn't feel much different than stock. I am still using the stock converter.

I question whether it makes more sense to use the Z06 cam you have an buy a converter or just buy a different cam that makes better power down low.

How would this Z06 cam be in a supercharged application? I have a Whippled 5.3. Would I feel the low end loss as well or would the s/c more than make up for it? I just have the stock converter.

both in a n/a and supercharged application the ls6 cam...(be sure you get a 03-04) is a great 'small' cam to install with no worries. Up the rev limiter and shift points and you are good to go. Ive never lost low end power swapping one of these cams in.
