Default And yet ANOTHER swap post..

Alrighty folks, where to begin.. OK, first off please don't keel haul me, I do not own a truck. I have a JEEP TJ, it has done me well over the years and given me and my family plenty of joy. I am now on my second deployment over seas and the time has come to take the Ole Yeller to a whole nother level, so the complete overhaul has begun. I have been reading thread after thread on this website and checking out other peoples builds, I do not know squat about engine internals or much else about engines for that matter so no matter how much I read only so much of it registers to me. I figure the best thing for me to do is just throw out there what I want to accomplish and let everybody and there brother give me their advise, please dont get to in depth into the science because you will most curtainly leave me behind. OK, enough chatter. I am currently putting 1 ton axles and will be running 40" tires, I love mud slinging and my "Skinny Pedal". I think I want to get a LQ9 out of an Escalade, here is what I think I know. 345hp, thick iron block good to be bored up to a 6.7, aluminum heads. I can swap a car intake manifold to achieve a drive by cable that i want, I am under the impression that with a cam swap, a good tune, and headers I can pull 400hp from this motor. So what I'm asking is try to give me your opinions on a build that you guys think would best serve me, I do not want to get into the enternals just yet, and I do me YET, that will come. Bolt ons and a cam for now, my Fab guy and I will figure out how to put it in the jeep, I just need to know what to do about engine, I do not care about MPG or emmisions. This is simply a toy for me so i want a motor that loves to REV and won't NUKE on me and as much HP as I can squeeze out of it right off the bat. Thanks, Skinny Pedal

Theres quite a few places that sell the stuff where you bolt the LSx stuff in the jeeps and go.

IF your planning on building it later, just go with the LQ4 since its the same block as the LQ9 without the premium price.

Dont forget a good transmission.. 4L80E.

What branch are you serving in?

Default Engine swap

U.S. COAST GUARD! Small group deployed to the Middle East. I have a good handle on all the places to get all the swap parts, I just need help with the engine aspect of it. I have a line on an LQ9 for $1400, is this a good deal? I cannot find an LQ4 for any less than that price either, I want to do all the bolt ons before I install it, plus the cam, I will wait till later to do the enternals. I basically need advise on the best bolt ons and cam for the upgrade, and I need to know what needs to be done to make it DBW because I spend alot of time in deep water and the less electronics to deal with the better. Thanks, BoatswainMate USCG

Cool.. thanks for your service!!

Yea go LQ9 if they are the same price.
Not a bad price at all if its decent miles.

To do DBW you just need a 1999-2002 harness, throttle body and PCM.

Basic bolt ons are Long Tube Headers. It depends on what size converter you plan on running and transmission.
plus where you want your power at.. 3000 or 6000rpms.

I will be mating it up to a 4L80E, I don't know what you mean by converter. I don't really know where I need the power, I spend more time in the mud than rock crawling. I have one ton axles and 40" tire with 5.38 gearing. The LQ9 I have a line on has 90,000 onit and it comes with all the acessories with it.

Honestly I know what that partlooks like but have no clue whatit does or how I need to decide which one to go with.. Thats why I'm on here asking for guidence. LOL

im not familiar with what the offroad guys want but it seems you would want a big stall for off road so it stays in the power?

I've heard rock crawler guys like stock stalls and low end grunt, I'm not sure about playing in the mud though, I would assume a little higher stall speed as they have to keep those tires moving quickly.

Long tube headers, I would keep the stock truck intake, cam, stall, tune. You'll be over 400 at that point.

Ah!! i missed the part about mud,, i was thinking rocks also..

my brother ran a 5000 stall in a TH350 in his mud truck
used the AC Condensor as his trans cooler. 5 minuntes of 7500rpms in the mud and i dont think the trans temp broke 150.

Id run a 3000ish stall, with a really good cooler mounted where it wont get mud in it.

I put a I6 Trailblazer torque converter in my Samurai but havnet driven it yet so wont be able to tellya how it does in mud
