I'd do x pipe for true duals. sounds good and as stated power is better than any other type. From what I've gatherd over the years is H pipe helps with tone but, not so much for power increases.

I run dual 3 with an X pipe. I love the sound, and it is supposedly has more power than the Y or H pipe. I would do an X system hands down.

I'm running LT headers into dual 2.5" that goes in a 3.5" y pipe that connects to stock 3.5" Duramax exhaust system. I opened up the Duramax muffler to make sure it flows 3.5" the whole way as well. It sounds really good, its quite cruising and gets loud at wot.

I have a dual 3" with an h pipe and dual dynomax bullets turned out right before the back tires on my chevelle. it is a lq4 with 243s on it and its rediculous loud. I like the sound but my neighbors are gonna hate it when I start driving it.

A proper set up Y pipe should make great tq and provide a great sound. I noticed a hugh difference in my Camaro when I upgraded my y-pipe to a better setup. The way I see it is I now have one bank pulling the opposite bank for optimum scavaging.

If you do decide on a Y-pipe do this type

For an x-pipe to actually be affective and work as designed, the pipes leading up to it should be of equal length, so that the x-pipe can properly scavenge the exhaust pulses and allow for good exhaust velocity. This can be hard to achieve considering the space constrictions on our trucks, but it is doable. Bill (trever1t) used to have a real nice true dual system with an x on his truck, and it was worked around a transfer case nonetheless. Whatever path you choose, the exhaust pipe diameter(s) should match your setup and power goals...if you go too small you leave a lot of power on the table, and if you go too big you may loose some exhaust velocity and suffer a power loss down low Just my .02
