Default Would you do it?

I came across a leftover 04 Sierra yesterday. I was pretty shocked by it. It had 78 miles on it, so it wasn't a demo that a manager was driving or anything. It's a 2500 HD 4x4 ECLB SLE with an 8.1 and Ally. Really nice truck. Not exactly what I want, but not bad either. The MSRP is 39,500 and they had 29,300 on the window.

I drove it and figured I'd see how far I could get them to go on the numbers. I offered them 26,000 for it with 14,000 for my trade (01 Sierra, same thing almost, but a 6.0). They said no and told me the best they could do was 29,000 for the truck and 14,00 for my trade. Bottom line is I now have them down to 28,000 for the truck with 15,000 for my trade. They say they won't go any lower, take it or leave it...

A comparable 05 with all the discounts right now would run about 30,000. Only thing is, there aren't 8.1's left in my area. It's all 6.0 and Dmax.

Would you do it? If I get it, I'm probably going to put a Whipple on it, unless I can find another option. I don't think anyone makes anything for the 8.1 other than Whipple though. As least nothing I've found yet anyway.

I posted this on GM-trucks yesterday too, but there weren't many responses. I'd be curious to see what people think.

I would get a D-Max if it was me better gas mileage and more power and easier to mod and make fast but thats just my opinion. After I get through with the truck I have I will be getting a dmax cc 4x4.

Believe me, I went back and forth 100 times between an 8.1 and DMax. I honestly see lots of plusses and minusses on both sides of the fence. For my needs and driving habits, the Dmax doesn't make as much sense to me. Probably the biggest reason for not going DMax is that I do far too many short trips with the truck. I also know a few people who have them, they love em, but they say they are a headache.

I'm not going to knock the DMax, I'm just saying it's not for me. Besides, I'd never get a new Dmax for 28,000.

If mpg is not an issue 8.1 is a good horse. 6.0L is better if mpg matters and with a turbo or supercharger, it will shake the carriage.

You're right... It's not exactly what I want. I want an 06 Victory Red SLT ECLB 4x4, 8.1 and the new six speed Ally. Oh, leather interior, sunroof, and some other goodies. That means waiting at least another month though.I'd pay a lot more for it too, which would mean waiting to put a Whipple on it.

The deal on the other truck would allow me to get the truck and drive it right from the dealer to the speed shop and pay for the Whipple.

So it's leather and sunroof on one hand, cloth and Whipple on the other.

I have a 6.0 now. I don't have any major mods done to it though, so there's shaking of the carriage. If I get the 8.1, I'll at least throw my Wester's tune on it, along with an AFE CAI, and probably do some type of headers right away. That'll make the carriage rattle enough to keep me content until I can put the Whipple on.

Oh, milegae matters some, but it's not the most important thing to me. From reading around, it seems the average 8.1 in my truck is getting 10 or slightly more MPG. I only get 12 with my 6.0, so it's really not enough a change to concern me. I'd rather have the extra 132 cubes.

I vote for the D-max. How much more would it be over the cost of that truck, a $4000 (or more)Whipple, plus the installation labor. I get the D-max and a $500 (or so) programmer....and that would be "****".
