Default would 17in rims slow me down?

I found some 17in Mondera B52s with tires for $1325 on superbuytires.com. Would the rims slow my truck down from the stock 16in rims?

I have some 17's. The only reason biger rims would slow you down is if they were heavier than stock. They call it rotating mass and parastetic loss and all that. The stock rims are heavy and there is a good chance that the ones you are looking at are lighter. Lighter is alway beter esecially if it moves.
Also make sure you keep your tire hight the same or you will change your overall gear ratio.

both weight and diameter will make a difference. if you have a 16" wheel that weights more than yur stock wheel it will slow you down. but if you have a 20" wheel (or anything bigger than stock) that weighs the same as a stock wheel it will slow you down. the more weight you get or the further you get it from the axle the more it will slow you down. try to find some weight specs for the wheels yur looking at.

if you want 17s then go with them. its all in yur desires not what everyone else says. i know a couple guys with 17s and their trucks look and perform well. one guy is at stock height with some big fat sidewalls on the tires, the other has a 4/6 drop with smaller tires. but for that price if you wish to go up sizes you could.

does anyone know of any 18s that are lighter or = to the weight of the stock rim, that are reasonable in price? I was going to try to keep my tire size what it is now - 255/70. I know I want to go wider maybe 55 or 60. Will the #s(70,65,60,55) change the height a little bit or just the width. what would be a good tire size, I'd like the width to be a little wider than stock, but not stick out too much from the truck itself. I was even thinking about putting either 17x9.5s or 18x9.5s on the back wheels and either 17x8s or 18x8s on the front wheels. I need help! I don't know much about rims and tires...please help me decide! Thanks

being a 50 or 60 doesnt make you wider. It is the 295 or 275 and then 50 or 60 is your side profile. Its a math deal to measure the tire with. Has to do with the crown of the tire and all that.

i thought the first number (285, 255, etc.) was the width of the tire at its widest point

and then the second number was a ratio of the width

like a 285/50 would be 285 mm wide and 142.5 mm tall? someone correct me if i'm wrong

I believe you are correct. It is (width in mm/% of width/wheel diameter).

Big wheel at a lighter rate than stock + the same overall tire hight as your stock tire will improve and not hender your performance. Since most aftermarket wheels are made from billet alluminum they are usually lighter than stock, the main concern I would have in your situation would be overall tire hight.

Hey Crazyidiot, how does the truck with 17's and the 4/6 drop look. I want the same drop but thought it wouldn't look right without atleast 18's.
