Will the engine blow? 1oo Dry shot
#1
OK my friend has a 03 scsb 5.3 with little bolt-ons a nelson tune. His tune is only setup for regular driving N/A, NO N20, the timing has only been advaced I belive, not retarded for the N20. So anyways, my friend just installed a 100 dry shot this past weekend. So lastnight we were out testing it out an we noticed every time he would spray, it sounded like the engine was Denotating or chatering or something??? What exactly is it that were hearing???? I was also told it could be the CATS, catilitic converters, getting really hot? What would you guys say it is an what he should do?

if it sounds like small rocks in a tin can then it is detonation. and yes a 100 or even a 75 shot will cause it. every truck is different. i am running a nelson tune and 30* timing with a 150 shot and have no knock. if that is what you hear do not spray it! check into a timing tuner. do a seasrch in the nitrous section on here.

If you're spraying a 100 dry shot through the MAF with a tune that has the timing advanced, that's why you're detonating. Yes, it sounds like rocks in a tin can or whatever, I think it sounds like Rice Krispies when you pour milk over them
I have advanced timing on my tune too and I spray, but I'm using a wet shot, i.e. I'm spraying fuel through the TB as well as nitrous....no detonation for me. Well, only when I did the 150 shot
Two things come to mind of what you can do:
1) Have the tuner bump down the timing. Yes, this means less power N/A, but you won't detonate when you want to spray.
2)Get the Ramchargers Timing Tuner. What this does is allows you to run full timing N/A, but when you switch the nitrous on, it takes timing out so you won't detonate on the spray. Then when you're done, just turn off the nitrous and it puts the timing back
Check the nitrous section, there are guys who have it. Plenty of other great info over there too.

OK thanks for the info guys. I figures his timing just needed to be retarded some.
But what exactly is happening to the engine inside when we here that noise?
He ran the truck about three times so far with the 100 shot, an it was denotating every time. Do you think he dameged anything internally so far?
