Default Wideband

I would like to install a wideband setup on my 02 silverado. I'm getting the exhaust completely redone this week I hope so I'd like to get this figured out now.
I don't know much about wideband. I don't need it yet, my truck is still stock but will need it down the road. For now it would be cool to see AFR going down the road.
Do most people replace stock with wideband sensors and use HPT/whatever software to get the wideband talking to the stock ECM, or is the extra wideband bung/sensor added apart from the 4x factory O2 sensors? I'm looking at the AEM x series UEGO. Is that still "the deal "or is there a better setup now?

The long tubes from Speed Engineering come with a bung, I just screwed my wideband in there.

The stock sensors are narrowband. The AEM (or whatever brand) wideband never talks to the PCM, it is completely separate. Now you could remove a rear O2 sensor and replace it with a wideband and tune out the rear O2s.

I am using an AEM wideband but I may move on to something else as both it and the gauge seem to be broken. I will get with their tech support first though when I have the time to work on the truck.

yeah I noticed the stock is one set of sensors per bank. I guess nobody runs a wideband sensor per bank? Ideally knowing the afr for each jug(cyl) would be good for diag purposes but I guess that's not needed. I have read quite a few posts online, people saying their AEM setups are crapping out.

It is not worth it to run an AFR sensor on each bank, not really needed.

I believe that mine died because of the diesel I put through my gasser. Probably not them but I like blaming manufacturers.

Just use a separate oxygen sensor bung for the wideband.

I know the LC2 wideband you can set it up to report like a narrow band for the pcm and have your 5v or serial output to tuning interface.
never tried it tho

I saw that concept mentioned on a YT video. Unfortunately all of my info comes from "the internet" which of course is always true and best practice.
Got a quote for exhaust from a local muffler shop. $750 for all-stainless side-exit and he's going to add an extra bung for a wideband sensor. He quoted $400 for aluminized and I said I'd rather pay double for stainless. The current exhaust is rusted beyond belief.

HP Tuners 60004 HP Tuners Ballenger AFR500v2 with NTK Sensor Wideband Control Kit | Summit Racing
This is the kit my buddy with an 1100HP ZR1 recommended. He said, "The AEM is what everyone orders first, but if the are doing their own tuning they end up buying something like the one I posted". His is integrated into his ECM and HPT. I have so much to learn...
