When I saw this thread I thought about Tony Mamo of AFR's 'Vette. His 'stall' may have more to do with traction however... Thought you might find it interesting. Watch the tach as it reaches 5,000 rpm. This is a 6 speed as you'll notice.

... and hopefully the video even works.

so then, is this a common occurence with stock converter...being very efficient at 4K? So this hang is the same amount time in each gear?
BTW, I don't know converters very well. I have no answers for this thread. I am just curiuos at what seems to be a very description of the converter locking and you having the horsepower to take advantage of it. I know I know, it's not that. Why are you so special Mr Converter Tuning King.

Blow me dew
I'm just baffled as to why this happens....I at first thought it was the converter clutch too but after making 100% sure it's not I'm even more baffled. It even SOUNDS to me like the converter is locking when I describe it to someone....if it wasn't for the fact that I'm 100% certain it's unlocked at WOT I'd be trying to hammer it down someone's throat that it's the converter locking up !!!!
The hang time is roughly the same amount in all gears (kinda hard to pinpoint it in first gear though as it tends to spin by that location on the tach pretty quickly )
I do wonder if it's converter slippage and that particular RPM is where the converter becomes more efficient so the mph starts catching up to the rpm's, I guess it's possible that it may have always done this but maybe it takes alot more than stock horsepower to really see it happen
