Who's running meth in a N/A motor?

Hey guys, I'm itching to squeeze some more power out of my truck. Is anyone here running meth on a n/a motor. I know they work great with boost but how would they work on a 11.4:1 compression motor. Could it be worth another 50hp?

smokeshow 04-05-2012 04:28 PM

Definitely not another 50... With an awesome H/C/I combo and revving the shit out of it, you might see another 10hp with a small dose of meth.

oakley6575 04-05-2012 04:31 PM

WTF... Why would snow even make a N/A kit?

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:31 PM

Hum.. that would be something fun to try..

Same reason Tornados and high performance racing chips are sold :sigh:

Perfect example

HAHA that thing is hilarious!!!

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:35 PM

Considereing i still have my meth kit and still planning on goin back turbo, i might put it on and see what happens..

And putting my Intercooler back on and see what happens N/A :D

Do it :hail:

smokeshow 04-05-2012 04:36 PM

Well, there are different ways of doing it... Just dumping in some meth on top of pump gas to gain some timing will help, but not a whole lot. Its when you run those kits with water and meth that they begin to make some good power gains.

oakley6575 04-05-2012 04:40 PM

Well I would run a 50/50 mix water and methanol. Increase the timing from around 3000rpm to 6400rpm. Wouldn't it help out a lot in the summer time?

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:42 PM

In theory it should.

But why 50/50 mix? So it would cool more and not as much fuel?

When i had the rear mount turbo, i started out running -30* WWF with 25% VP1,, try buying that stuff here in MS where it gets down to 30* sometimes, had to get my guy to order me a case.. He knew not to ask.

After towing alot with it, i went to straight VP1 and tuned it from there,, IATs dropped fast.

smokeshow 04-05-2012 04:43 PM

Its for the compression increase. Adding water to the combustion also increases knock resistance when done right.

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:45 PM

hum... ill try and mix it to see what happens.

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:45 PM

Dunno how im goin to get it to work tho... lowest my box will go is 2psi.

What box?

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:49 PM

The control box for the meth.

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:50 PM

Progressive Water Alcohol Controller

oakley6575 04-05-2012 04:52 PM

The snow kit I was looking at buying has a vacuum controller box. So it progressively injects more water/meth based on manifold vacuum.

nonnieselman 04-05-2012 04:56 PM

yikes
$500

oakley6575 04-05-2012 04:59 PM

I was looking at part number 20020. I think MSRP was $400 and Snow gave me a %40 off MSRP discount.

smokeshow 04-05-2012 05:04 PM

These guys are doing some pretty cool stuff with water/meth injection

Fluid MotorUnion E90 Dyno w/ Water-Meth - YouTube

They claim their kits are picking up 20-30fwhp on a 4.0L v8.

TXsilverado 04-05-2012 05:23 PM

damn, this stuff will clean your engine huh?

smokeshow 04-05-2012 05:35 PM

Steam clean :)

oakley6575 04-06-2012 03:44 PM

How much more timing do you think it would allow on a 11.4 compression motor?

After running thru about 4 gallons of meth on a trip towing to Kentucky and back, my intake looked brand new :D

Beatdown Z 04-06-2012 04:19 PM

Couldn't you set it up like a nitrous kit with a window switch and/or WOT switch?

nonnieselman 04-06-2012 04:38 PM

and let it spray a crap ton in all at once? that would suck to tune for..

ill figure somethign out.

oakley6575 04-06-2012 04:43 PM

There are many ways to set it up. Snow has a kit that you wire into the MAF. It will start spraying at a certain airflow setting and ramp up from there. They also have a RPM/Vacuum controller. You set an engine RPM point to turn the system on and then tell it to start spraying 10% at higher vacuum and then ramp up to full spray at 0 vac.

nonnieselman 04-06-2012 04:44 PM

Me no have no MAF :D

i dont wanna have to spend any money on it since ill be goin turbo soon and wont have any use for it.

oakley6575 04-06-2012 04:48 PM

Your not going to run meth on your turbo set up?

nonnieselman 04-06-2012 04:56 PM

Yea, my controller is setup for 2 bar MAP tho.. and my whole kit is ready to go but needs boost to activate the pump.

oakley6575 04-06-2012 05:01 PM

I forgot you already had a kit. What compression are you running?

kbracing96 04-06-2012 05:12 PM

Take if for what its worth... But Snow was on Horse Power TV on Spike a while back and they put there NA kit on the high comp 572 BBC that HPTV has. They tuned it up on the engine dyno on pump 93 then added the snow kit that sprayed though a plate kit. Sprayed their "Boost Juice" 51/49 Meth. They were about to add some more timing over what they could on just pump 93 and picked up about 30hp if I remember correctly. Probably on their website some where.

oakley6575 04-06-2012 05:32 PM

Here is the link to that episode: PowerBlockTV - Video

What is impressive about that is it made 33 more hp than the 110 octane race fuel with meth and 93 octane. So what kind of improvement would it make with a baseline number with 93 octane. Then add meth and timing on a 11:1+ compression motor.

Hemi2Slo 04-08-2012 01:26 AM

I was always of the understanding that any motor would benefit from it. I've been thinking about doing it to my N/A truck because I see some knock when towing and I'm only on 10.5 CR. Certanly would help on hot days......

Atomic 04-08-2012 01:48 AM

It wont help much without an increase in the compression ratio. Its more useful on FI apps where there are high temperatures involved and the fuel is near the detonation threshold.

When I get my heads ported, I'm going to have him either open up the combustion chamber to run forced induction or or drop the cc to 65ish for a high compression N/A motor.

I'm already running 11.4 compression but if I bumped it up to 12:1, and ran meth all the time, would I greatly benefit from the meth kit? Or is 12:1 on meth to high of compression for a daily driver?

Atomic 04-08-2012 11:49 AM

If you have e85 locally I would bump it to 14:1 and run e85 all the time. You still wont see a lot with meth + 12:1. You need to decide rather early if you want NA or FI.

oakley6575 04-08-2012 12:10 PM

Vegas does have E85 but I wouldn't ever go with a compression ratio that high. 12 would be the limit and you think that would be safe with meth and 91 octane for EVERY day driving?
