Default what's with the big split on GM Hotcam?

Any theories on why the big difference. Was it built to overcome stock exhaust manifolds or something?

I thought it was to be able to pass emissions easier. The same reason why the ls7 cam has such a large split. I could be wrong though.

I had the Futral 218/228 and when I called Futral they said they designed it for two applications: Forced Induction and if running stock exhaust manifolds. They said both setups benefit from a larger exhaust duration than intake.

I tend to lean more toward what the manufacturer says works and what doesn't.

There are a TON of guys on here with a TON of knowledge, but unfortunately and on the flip side, there are also some with limited knowledge who throw our "what works and doesn't work" based simply on what they've heard or have had limited dealings with. If someone claims something is junk I think they should have dyno numbers or real life experience or some other creditable means to back up their claims.

lol i ran a hotcam on stock springs ( yes, yes i did) and a 150shot, Lts and 3.42s an other wise stock 2001 z28 and got nothing but "daammmmmmm" when i raced. after i told them what it was suddenly my car was a peice of crap in thier eyes.. i say do research and read read read. take in only what pertains to you and your aplication. i learned everything i know by reading and trial an error (lots of error, lol) i plan on hotcamming my 4.8 NNBS extcab, Lts 3.73s and small stall. We will see tho

I trapped 110mph with the hotcam when I first bought my 01 z28. It was bone effing stock down to the paper air filter and 16" snowflake wheels other than that cam.

I'm currently waiting to install my hotcam/springs. I was thinkin about doing a bigger cam like a TR224 or something, but the hotcam offered a damn good price point and it's had proven results. I'm not saying that the tr224 doesn't have proven results, but the hotcam is much better than some may think. We'll see what gains I see on the dyno in January.
