I see a lot of you guys are running 3.73s and 4.10s, and was wondering if changing the rear to 3.73s or 4.10s would help my 1/4 times. I know you get worse mpg, but is it worth it? BTW, I have a 3.42 rear.

 

I think 373's are perfect for these trucks they dont pull to many rpms at highway or mileage

 

i have had all three gears. 3.42 got the best mileage. 4.10 the worst. but to be honost, my mileage hasn't suffered a whole lot. i mean, i still get about what i did with 3.42. i feel it is better driving around town with 4.10 then 3.42.

yea it is def better for red light to red light racing. that is, to have 4.10

3.73's were a great gear for all around driving. to me, 4.10's make up for the lack of hp for down low. also i have no stall, so once i get one, i may change back to a 3.73.

either way, 3.73 and 4.10 are better than a 3.42 for drag racing.

 

Where can I get these gears and how much are they?

 

Exactly what goshawk said, they are not too bad on the gas mileage and are soo fun to drive around with.

your location plays a part in
choosing a gear ratio for MPG/power

If you live in a flat area you may get better MPG with
a higher gear.
somewhere with hlly terrain
you may get better MPG with lower gears

just because you get higher gears doesnt necessarily mean better MPG

but lower gears usually means better et unless you have a turbo

 

I got better mpg after going from 3.42 to 3.73. I know that sounds backward, but gas receipts don't lie. I guess the 3.42 gears kept the motor too far below torque peak? BTW, the slight gear reduction did not help acceleration as much as I had hoped.

 

I went from 3.42's to 4.10's and I get BETER milage now... But I drive like an old man and most (90%) of my driving is city. The 4.10's help hide the lack of torque of the 4.8
