well you've got the right idea already. If you want it to be loud, i'd do a bullet or two, dumped. A few people on the forum just cut their exhaust off before the muffler, very cheap but for some reason doesn't sound bad.

If you're thinking of a direct multiple-chamber muffler replacement or a cat back, i'd go with a hooker aerochamber or dynomax race series.

My #1 choice however is still the bullet. $33 over at summit racing.

nothing like the sound of no muffler with 3.5 inch tips ran out the back on a 5.3 with a brute force intake (well any intake could do it but it changed the tone alot more deeper not as much popping ) . when i change the exhuast next though im gonna run longtubes , no cats , 2.5 duals with x pipe and aero's

the straight through Corsa is pretty loud as well. I think it's called Corsa Sport muffler, I'm not sure though.

ya but there hard to get ahold of the just the muffler and the catback alone cost like 600 to 800 . if you were to cut the cats out and replace them with 2.5 piping . then ran 3 inch off your y pipe to a magnaflow youd like it . well it would sound good everyone has there own taste

I would just add a dynomax bullet and call it a day. Or if you wanted to add the bullet and put a flowtech cutout upstream from the bullet. Total cost bullet-35 bucks, cutout-35 bucks, weld it all on-25-40 bucks, having a loud truck-priceless.

I have tried so many different exhaust setups on the last 2 trucks of mine. I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing that can come close to loudness that a flowmaster 40 series, except an open cutout. The bullets are close though. This opinion being offered with the idea that you are planning on keeping your cats and stock manifolds.
