Depends on how in depth you plan to go with it! If you plan to go all out. I would add a crank and get a little more stroke from it. Then maybe bore it out a little and add some lightweight rods and pistons. Then some ported heads, cam, tq. converter, electric fans, pulleys, ASM headers, good exhaust system, K&N FIPK, custom/or HPP3 tuning, ported TB, lightweight wheels....and so on.
I would think that that would be a very good running truck. But that is a lot of money IMO. I would just get a 6.0L block and make a 422 or so and drop it into the truck. I know that 13's are possible with the stock motor and just bolt ons and things of that nature. but you would probably have to go with a good heads and cam package to get the truck into the low 13's or better.

383 stroker kit and a nice cam if it will handle the 5.7 bore. That's my plans anyway. I just haven't gotten around to researching it yet. I'm pretty sure the block will handle the bore, but am wondering how well it will hold up on a 150 shot. I'll try that first, then replace the tranny.

one thing i dont understand, if you are going to go spend the money on a 383 stroker kit, why not just save up the extra bit of money and do it to a 6.0L block and have like a 402ci or something like that? prob cost like 500-750 more after getting heads reworked or new heads and buying a used block. but considering the cost of those stroker kits i dont see why you wouldnt wanna. just my opinion though

I think I am going to buy a used LS1 longblock, fresh'n it up a little and install some good pistons, and a cam.....then hook up a 150+ wet shot.
When money gets a little easier to come by I will take the heads off and get them ported. By this time the trans will have to be rebuilt anyway, and at that time I'll get the converter rebuilt and modified better to suit the needs of the truck.

So those heads will be sent for some stage two work, then the block stripped and bored. I also just wanna say "yea that's the 4.8 block that came in the truck" (which would not be a lie). I think, that would be good for some low 13's n/a Besides, if I build a 402, someone will go bigger. But how many 383's are in new body trucks? I won't win all the races with a 383, but sure will scare the hell out of some of these guys. I guess the biggest reason is because no one has done it.
