Get the 5.3 with a 3.73 rear end and the g80 locker. The 4.8 gets better mpg than the v6 and the 5.3 is only 1 mpg behind it.

I have a 00 long bed standard cab Chevy with the 5.3 and factory posi with 3.42 gears. I get avg 17.5 mpg city/highway. Doing 75 it gets high 19's mpg. If I bought again I would give up a little mileage for 3.73 gears. Otherwise for stock I am quite happy. I run the air most of the time (defrost in winter to keep air dry) and it is hard to tell the power lost in normal driving. Also, this thing will hall its tail off when it come to dirt, sand, gravel, etc.

I have a 2001 GMC 5.3 w/3.73 locker....

I plan to sell it....just not sure when I'll be ready. How much are you looking to spend? It has 28,000 miles on it.

Default What should I get?

I'm looking to buy a used 99 or 00 Chevy truck in the near future. What do you guys suggest I get? One with a 4.3, 4.8 or 5.3? I want something that has a decent selection of bolt-ons and gets decent MPG. Is there a big price differnce between those models? Thanks
Clint
