What is the real purpose of the steam vents on the heads?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the 99-02 trucks come with the 4 corner vent tubes? That's what I'm running on my 04 with a TBSS intake and all fit perfectly fine. I got them from my father in law who had them just sitting in his garage so when i swapped intakes i swapped out the vent tubes as well. I wasn't sure what they came off of or if they would clear the intake, that's just what he told me he got them off of was an older model truck motor.

I have a supposed 2001 5.3 and it had the two rear vents blocked off. I'll be buying the 4 corner ls1 tube then since I am running the NNBS/TBSS/GMT-900 intake.

My 01 5.3L had the rear ports blocked as well. I swapped to the LS1 tubes that have all four corners.

Maybe it just depended on how someone felt on the assembly line that day

I think I am going to run my lines like yours instead of getting the ls1 hard line. Since I have copied your whole fuel system why not this too! lol.

Old thread but I had never seen the factory 4 corner steam pipe.

This is off of my 2000 Silverado 5.3L.

The 2005 6.0L I'm swapping in had the rear ports blocked off. Why isn't everyone just running this factory piece?
